Somebody in a later post talked about cherrybomb vortex muffler that look like the flowmaster design and sound powerful but loud cherrybomb sound also if you now were i can get some post below with answers.
Meineke sells these.. they look cheap quality to me, they say "Made in Mexico" on the bottom.. I had one installed and the pipes split coming out the back, and to be honest the sound isn't that great.. but when I put big tips on it helped it out with a deeper tone.
I got mine from a local auto parts store. I live in NH. But I heard you can get them from Meineke. They are inexpensive. Mine doesn't say Made in Mexico, but what is worse, Made in Mexico or Made in Korea?? Just kidding, who knows where Flowmasters are made. I have had no problems with bad sound or breaking pipes. Mine has sound good with just the pipes. Flowmasters are very popular (and expensive) I was just giving you a little variety.
I think that the difference between the vortex mufflers probably depends on where you get it, and also, how cheap of a job was done.. I had told the person specifically what size piping I wanted, and he did my exhaust from the cat to the muffler in 2 1/4 piping and split piping out of the muffler was 2 1/4. The inlet/outlet of the muffler looked to be 3 inch, but they had shoved my rusted 2 1/2 in between the outlet/inlet and pipe and welded it to seal it.. CHEAP! I had them replace it. I wanted my thicker pipes.. and a quality job.. oh yeah.. my hangers from the exhaust fell off twice and my muffler almost came off, too... wasn't a very good job.. don't go to meineke unless you watch the mechanics and make sure they do it right :P But anyways I think it may just be that one place in Richmond cuz the meineke up here isn't that bad..
hey im the kid who asked about the vortex. sorry i havent been on lately. i been wastin money to go see my gf instead of puttin that behind my truck. i have i think 2 1/2 inch pipe after the Y on my exhaust right now but what i want to do is take the 2nd cat out and put a 3" pipe there and put that vortex in and run it into that dual. at the back i have a 4" tip. its deep right not but just not loud. how would that be.
I had Vortex Cherry Bomb mufflers on my old 2003 Mustang GT. I had them installed by a local muffler shop that my mechanic recommended. The install was fine. I had no problem with the mufflers. I thought they sounded pretty good...especialy considering my old mustang was an automatic. If it was a stick it would have sounded even better because you can always hear the exhaust more when u stay in the lower gear and increase the RPMS, etc. The A/T would always up shift by itself obviously so it would quiet down as son as the RMS kicked back down from going up to the next gear. I have an 05 now with a standard tranny and have been looking at new exhausts...im still thinking of getting the vortex again, but have to find out if they have a type that fit etc. I like them to be pretty damn loud more than i care about aded horsepower....LOL. I also definitley felt a good bit more pep in my off the line acceleration...they say they give you 10-15 more HP.
