The lower hose is going to be pretty cold especially during the winter months. These engines have amazing cooling systems that can handle just about anything. If your worried about it, you might try pulling your stat and making sure its closing all the way.

It also might be a great opportunity to put the 203 in.
I've been hearing this for years about the stock gauge. I have to say, I've said it many times, that my stock gauge does exactly what my installed gauge does. They both go up at the same time and they both go down at the same time. I have two temp gauges that act in unison. There, I just had to say that in defense of the stock temp gauge. On the other hand, the oil pressure gauge, as we all know, is a piece of garbage. Activited by six pounds of oil pressure, jump up to a certain spot and stays there telling you take you have at least six pounds of oil pressure. Junk!!!!

And I thought I was the only one thought the only thing wrong with the stock gauge was the lack of numbers. I too have both the stock and aftermarket and once I learned what letters correspond with the numbers I really dont need the 2nd one.

yes it moves correctly but telling someone that your truck runs on the O or the R is pretty dumb! I like real numbers!

I concure. I had my stock gauge hooked up for a little bit while I had my aftermarket one. My aftermarket was a lot more responsive and actually moved compared to the stock one.

Plus, I like it in the winter because my aftermarket one starts at 100 F instead of most 140's.

The conversion to make it a real gauge is pretty easy. I wrote up my change here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...for-gauge.html I didn't write up the change behind the dash, but that's pretty well documented.
