Pressure switch for gauge?

I'm looking to replace my pressure switch with a pressure sender so I'd have a real gauge.

When looking for the right sender, I've dug up that the 80's F series had real pressure gauges or an idiot light. At the part store, they list them as:

Pressure switch for gauge

-or-

Pressure switch for warning lamp

OK, what's a pressure switch for gauge? That seems like what we have now, a switch with a gauge.... I took the gamble and got one. Turns out, it really is a sender. Open at 0 PSI, clicks at 5 PSI to 90 ohms, and eventually 20 ohms at 100 PSI. That works out about right for the gauges.

What year is your truck? On 94 & 95's the pressure switch on the hpop reservoir uses tapered pipe threads but 96's and later use a straight thread with o-rings.

That's good info BlueMule...reps sent.
Hmm? I wonder how many threads I ruined on oil sender's, I don't recall the o'rings on the 94-95's...

Thanks for the info BlueMule. It's a '95, so pipe thread should work.

I decided to try a 45° street elbow instead of the nipple and 90° elbow. I liked the idea of cutting down on the lever arm that the sensor places on the piping by shortening it down some.

Here is the view with the cover off. (Click for a big view.) There is at least 1/2" space between the sensor and cover.

And now with the cover on:

You are a very good photografer, and I liked your set up with the 45° streer elbow.
I have some questions:
what is the #part of the oil pressure sensor?
whats is the normal PSI for the oil pressure?, because in the write ups from BlueMule they say that the gauge is 0-90 PSI, and I thougth the pressure was very high, at least 2000 psi, but sure Im wrong.
How is working the gauge?

As kurt mentioned, the gauge is measuring the main oil pressure.

The gauge reads a little above where it did before above idle. Below idle it reads a ways below.

I hooked the sender up to my air compressor before installing it so I could see the range. It took 110 PSI to max out the gauge. It went low scale about 5 PSI.

I'll add the part number when I get home tonight.

Thanks too. So I suppose that the rea preassure should be between 5 and 110 PSI according to that, right?, and when you tested with the air compressor, the needle in the half of the gauge was about 50-55 PSI?
And Ill be waiting for the part number

I found this for 2004 6.0 L PSD: The minimum engine oil pressure specifications are 82.7 kPa (12 psi) at 700 rpm, 165.5 kPa (24 psi) at 1,200 rpm and 310.3 kPa (45 psi) at 1,800 rpm with the engine at operating temperature. Low or no pressure could be caused by the oil pressure regulator<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
And this:<o></o>
The Powerstroke HP oil pump is fed low pressure oil from the lubricating pump via the HP oil reservoir, located at the front of the engine. Contrary to popular belief, the HP oil reservoir does not store high pressure oil: the oil in the reservoir is at lubrication pressure, 15 to 45(?) PSI , not injection oil pressure (500 to 2700ish PSI.) A more correct term for this reservoir would be HP oil pump reservoir, but everyone seems to leave out the "pump" part, thus leading some people to think the reservoir is holding 3,000 PSI oil.<o></o>
<o></o>
<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->I think this clarify my thoughts.<o></o>
