Friday night I was driving around and came to a stop sign and my truck died on me. I went to crank and all I got was a click on the starter. Pulled started, checked out good. Replaced batteries and truck fired right up.
Now driving around it acts like it did before it died. Drops idle down too low while in drive and runs very rough and shakes the whole truck more than usual. It got a little better when it warmed up a bit (after 20 min of city driving).
I am thinking this is an electrical problem.
I just replaced the fuel pump at the end of December.
I haven't check fuel pressure but fuel to the bowl is great and it revs up fine while in park. But runs sluggish like there isn't a lot of boost when in gear.
I noticed the voltage meter going back and forth a bit, way after I had been driving it for 15 min. I am thinking that my alternator isn't keeping up to the task.
The alt. is about a year old from NAPA. So I am going to have that checked out today.
How can I check the IDM without swapping in a new one?
So, cleaned the FPR with the q tips in the fuel bowl.
Checked the GPR, not on after 3 min of idle time.
Fuel pressure maxed out the gauge (50 psi).
Pulled off the EBPV electronic plug under the turbo.
Still rev. up the truck from 2k - 3k rpms and and let off the pedal and it drops down to less than 500 rpms for a second and then it jumps back up to approx. 700 rpms.
So I pulled all the diesel I had in my back tank from last Friday. I bought fuel and about an hour later after driving my problems occured.
The truck runs much better and I think that this is just a part of my problems.
The truck still idles down to about 400 rpms occasionally. It doesn't have a problem starting now and it is running much better with the acceleration back.
Any one have ideas about the ICP? Is it bad or what is making the truck drop RPMs?
By the way I got two CELs yesterday and I tried to check them but the code reader I borrowed didn't show anything b/c it made turn the truck of and that reset them. I also am still having a big loss of power when I drove it this morning!
So, maybe not the fuel. Does same thing again today and fuel switch doesn't matter after 5 min of different tank.
Now my oil pressure gauge is showing no pressure at idle and jets back up to normal range when you idle it up. I still have pressure right, b/c the truck is running?
I have some veggie oil leaking onto the one connector on the front of the truck drivers side that connects to the VCs. Is this causing my problem?
check your oil level the injectors are fired useing high pressure oil if your low it can cause issues it could be the oil in the connector clean it real good hope you get it goin
