I have an old late 50's early 60's f500 that I am going to build. I need to find out what year it is though. I have looked at the vin decoder on this site, but it seems very generic to me. I can get the serial number to decode to two different years. Also it has an 11 digit serial/vin number instead of a 12 digit number. Any old timers or anyone for that matter that could help me would be awsome. If anyone wants to hear what I am going to do to it I would be glad to inlighten.
It sounds like you do not have the legal title at this time. Once you get the numbers figured out...I would recommend getting it all legal in your name before you start spending money on it. You never know what could come up later.
As Far As It Being Legal, The Truck Used To Belong To A Very Good Friend Of Mine. That Has Crossed My Mind, But Im Not To Worried About It. It Is Something That Needs To Be Done Anyway. He Is An Old Fella And Couldnt Find Any Of His Registration Or Anything Like That For It. The Truck Hasnt Ran Since 79 So It Has Sat In The Line For A Long Time, But It Is In Pretty Good Shape Other Than Mice In The Cab.
Hmm....I am not getting any of the online decoders to give me anything from that number.
Maybe somone else will have some luck.
The F50...should be F-500, but beyond that....no clue.
If he had the title at one time..he can get a "lost title" for it. That would be the easiest and cheapest. If he will write out a bill of sale...that would be the next best option. Every state has some procedure to go through for that.
You still need the VIN figured out for that to work though.
yea and you should be able to narrow it down a little by studin the pictures of various years and see which one your truck looks like then decode the vin for sure.
What do you guys think about putting a 12v cummins in the truck. give me some feed back on that. to me its not a matter of ford and dodge. it is a heavy duty truck, and you can get the new 650's 750's and 850's with a cummins in them now.
Where are you getting the VIN from? In the cab (drivers door jamb, glove box, under the hood on the firewall, other location) or somewhere or off the frame?
