I Am Taking All Of This Very Seriously. Anything That Anyone Can Tell Me I Am Listening, But I Do Research All Of My Sources Just To Be Safe. What Do You Mean Not In A Good Way? Also Do You Think The Old 292 Would Be Something Somone Would Want To Buy Perhaps? The Engine Is Still Sealed Up Tight: Oil Pan, Air Cleaner, Exhaust. What Do You Think.

It was a poor attempt at humor. Nothing to do with trucks or the site. Sorry.

I am sure somone would want it. I would love to get my hands on it (even if for parts), if you lived closer. Shipping would be a bear down to Arkansas though.

B1= 5.83:1 rear end ratio. The F code transmission is 4 speed which, which is a t-98.

Someone may want the engine, 1960 is a low compression year.

Is the engine free. i.e. can it be turned over. If it isn't locked up, it might be fun to get it running. In that vintage of truck, it would make a pretty good odd job vehicle in stock form. It won't run down the interstate at 70 mph, but might cruise at 55 mph all day long.

We had farm trucks of that vintage when I was 15-16, and 60-70 mph empty was about all they had for top end. Being 15-16 at the time you know how I know. I never saw dad drive them that fast though.

As far as I know...all Y-blocks are low compression. Mine was (52 years ago) only 8.3:1.

Don't trash it, if no one wants the whole thing. I might buy some parts of it.

Shipping the whole thing down here would cost way too much.

I can run down the interstate at 65-70 all day. I have run 75 a few times, but that made me a little nervous in heavy traffic.

In the larger trucks the gearing is for power to haul a heavy load, so most of the time on the older ones, there isn't a high top speed.

Tommy, I see that the first letter of every word in every sentence that you type is capitalized. Is that something you do intentionally, or some program does it automatically? It kinda makes for distracting reading.

hey there i dont have a problem with wright been there a few times seen some neat old iron sitting around down there. Personaly if you want to make a nice new modern work or service truck out of it a cummins would be awesome, the 292 would probably do anything that that a cummins will just not as fast or easy. as far as getting rid of the 292 i would sure be interested in it for the right price and im close but dont trash it thats for sure.

Here's what I found

F= Conventional Truck
50 is an F-500
c = 292 Cu/in V8
0 = 1960
K = Kansas City Assembly Plant, and
17319 is the truck number

Here's a useful chart:

http://www.mercurypickup.com/60%20Fo...%20ID%20US.jpg

And the site link with the decoding tables:

http://www.mercurypickup.com/1960vin.htm

Good Luck,
Julie

PS Edit note. Wow that's weird, after I posted this the two additional pages of comments popped up that hadden't been there before. Ah Software changes.

Yeah sorry about the capital letters, had it on caps lock. Anyway the 292 probably would be fun to get running, but I just dont have the time or money if I am going to start this project with the cummins. Already got the cummins, and a tranny which is probably the biggest exspense " I hope ". But I need to try to get rid of some of the original parts to help fund the un-forseen problems and exspenses. I also have an older 60's f-600 with the 245 inline 6 in it as well. Naturally it would take work to get both engines to run, but maybe that is what someone is looking for.

well you said the 292 was still sealed up and looked ok so it might not take much to get it running. id pull the plugs and squirt a little penetrating oil in the cylinders and put new plugs in and change oil and pour some gas down the carberator and give it a crank. heck it might fire right up.
