Yesterday morning I plugged in my 05-350 at 7:00. It was -20. Normally I've been keeping it plugged in, but forgot to do it the night before. At 8:30 I went out to start it up, and it was a rough start, but it kicked over the second time, and quickly began to idle fine. I left it idle about 15 minutes before I went to pull out of the driveway. Going up our road, I had no power. It idled fine, just no power. I backed down the road to my driveway, pull it in, replugged it in, and took my wifes car.
What caused the loss of power? I have been putting Lucas in the fuel regularly. What have I forgotten to do- first year with a diesel.
Lucas fuel treatment. All filters were changed less than 5K miles ago. I'll look for the anti-gel. Today it ran fine- then again it's 26degrees outside (46 degree temp swing in 24 hours.)
Same problem with my 05(see my post below on Glow PLugs). When I first start it the throttle does not respond at all until the idle smooths out then everything works fine.
where and what kind of fuel are you using. i havent been plugging in and had a problem. turned out to be the FICM. now that its been changed and prog. with the inductive -Heat flash, it starts easily in temps of -20deg with out being plugged in.
Diesel jells at 19 degrees, sounds to me like your fuel filters were jelled up and not letting enough diesel through. You need to put an anti-jell solution in your fuel tank and change out the fuel filters. Good luck.
I have to plug mine in at -20 below if I expect it to start. I also have to use powerservice (but I never have used #1 diesel). When I forgot to plug it in....it took hours for it to warm up enough that I could get it started (something like 6 hours).
You had a partial filter blockage from gelling. Same thing happened to me yesterday but was only 0 deg. I have PS anti gel but when I went past the isle in Walmart today the shelves were empty.

Thanks guys. I'll stop by my mechanic tomorrow at a Car Quest shop and get the anti gel added and see about getting the fuel filter changed out. Just got back from a good run on the interstate and drove it like I stole it. Ran just fine, then again it's 26 degrees out.
