first major problem

i have a 2006 f-250 cc 6.0 that up until now had no problems. last night the truck was running good but was turbo farting alot more than usual. in the morrning it started rough because of -5 degrees but i warmed it up for 45 minutes than while driving it had intermitent power lose comes and goes during a 20 minute trip it stalled twice. the only thing i could see wrong was a little oil build up on the blue boot that goes from turbo to intercooler. my guess would be a faulty injector or leak in the intake somewere but the weird part is it is intermitent. any advice is appreciated

Are you saying you let it idle for 45 minutes before driving?

The oil on the boot is most likely oil that gets into your intake from the crankcase ventilation system. If you see the oil, you have a slight leak or seep in the boot and the boot should probably be replaced. Take it off and inspect it to know for sure. When re-installing you can clean it up real good w/ brake cleaner and then spray the ends with hair spray (or permatex high-tack) and re-install. Does your current boot have an orange inner liner?

I am betting your EGR valve is plugged. The idling that you have done aggrivates the EGR plugging situation.

It also sounds like you are having some issues with turbo vanes sticking.

Do you use synthetic oil? How often do you change filters (fuel and oil). What type of filters do you use? Have you had the updated (inductive heat) flash on your processors?

Pull the boot and inspect. Replace it if it seems oil soaked and feels like it has softened. Pull the EGR valve and clean it - be prepared at least with new gasket and o-rings (I replaced my EGR valve at 30k and I am glad I did. I do not idle, use synthetic, etc. and my EGR valve was still heavy with thick solids.

You are using the wrong oil for the temperatures. You should use a 5W40 synthetic. You should also consider doing the ccv re-route.

Take it to the dealer and pay the 100.00 deductable, get it fixed and keep driving it. Unless you have bad fuel you should be good. The dealer wont cover bad fuel and you should be using an aditive every tank full. I go heavy on it in the winter months.

At 24k there is no deductible if you bought it after Jan 19, 2006. Even if you did buy it before that, there is no deductible for emissions systems repair (like EGR). Take it in and get it fixed. Ford has been good about warranty coverage in my years of experience with them. Some dealerships may be less helpful than others, so develop a healthy relationship with a good one. This is a key to success with any major vehicle purchase (Ford, Chevy, etc.). Berating the truck and Ford as you did in the Superduty post will not help a bit if any of that comes through at the dealership.

............... and, again ............. 15W40 oil is too thick for -5 *F.

good luck to you - it may not be what you wanted to hear, but you have received some good advice.

Bismic is corect,

I was going on the therory that he bought the truck in late 05...my bad. (Thanks for setting me stright Mark) In the 55k on my truck it have ben in the shop 3 times. Once for a recal for rough running while towing, another time for a cracked crossover pipe, and its in now for an injector or two. Would I get rid of my truk for this...nope. I love it and it does everything I want it to do.

I have developed a great relationship with the service department and the 2 diesel techs there and they are always happy to see my truck. I only go in for waranty repairs as I run my own shop, but they are always curtious and treat me well. I also have a few mods on my truck which they over look and keep me on the road...
