Crushed gasket perhaps?

Remember the oil cooler gasket I asked about in my last thread? I got the fuel tank back into the truck with a working fuel pump and when I fired it up,Oil began POURING from the top of the cooler. I took the cooler back off and it felt like that o-ring sat completly in the cooler housing like it was to small or crushed. I didnt use any RTV on anything. Should I of?

Thanks.

Is it possible the o-ring got sliced as you installed the cooler?

I took it back off and the o-ring is still in one piece. I thought maybe it just didnt seat right or something,so i put everything back on. same thing. it looks like that o-ring sits way in there or something but it was made for this engine......im about to give up on this truck. wife and i already had an argument about it,how i told her im tired of killing my self and spending money on it all the time to get it going. hell,if this thing stopped pissing oil which it has a hard time doing,i still need to bleed her brakes and put new fluid in and get a grille.......

the "kit" i got had 2 paper gaskets and 1 rubber o-ring. Looking at it when it came off,the paper gaskets go on top of the cooler and the o-ring goes on the far outside on top.

shows what I am talking about, its not your exact part, but it fits the block - see the annular groove on the center section? the o ring goes there, now find yours

yeah, that outer small groove is where it goes. Tonight I ripped it off again and looked, the black o-ring I bought just sits damn near flush with the top of the groove and the factory orange one barely clears the top. After reading that other site,it looks like I'm gonna break out the Blue RTV I got for the oil pan gasket and never needed it and put some on this black o-ring and seal it up that way. Hell,Im out of time, money and options. But shouldn't them 2 paper gaskets keep the oil from gushing out like that? Unless I put them on in the wrong order......But I don't see how.

the paper gasket keeps oil in the center to flow down 'thru the filter' and not leak to the outside, the outside Oring keeps the oil flowing in the outer part of the element from getting to the outside world - which is what you are experiencing.

After getting tired of screwing with this thing,I did what the guy did on that link you gave me did. I covered that o-ring in blue RTV to the point where when I put it back together it "smushed" out. But I made sure that small hole on the side was unristricted. Gotta wait untill tommarow for it to fully cure......Dries in 1 hour my ***..........

However,I found out that dish soap does a decent job of getting it out of your hair.
And when you mix permatex with 10W-30 oil,you get some soft hands.
