EGR Bypass

I'm considering installing an EGR bypass. I know it will throw a code. Does anyone have one of these? Can you see a difference in power or fuel economy? How hard is it to install?

I just did an EGR delete while I was putting my head studs in. I would say that it would be about 6-7 on a scale of 1-10. I had everything out anyway and I know someone who can weld aluminum. I had him weld the EGR Valve hole and the EGR cooler hole. And fabbed up the coolant tube. Mine throws two codes P0403 and P0405. I am working on plugging the valve back in to try to get rid of the codes but due to the ITP Reg Rtn lines I do not have enough slack in the harness to plug it in. According to some the computer goes into a default mode (reduced power) because it does not see the EGR flow, valve plugged in, etc. As far as power it is not drastic that I can tell, however when I took my intake manifold off I was horrified at the amount of black tar substance from the combination of oil from the CCV (which I also deleted/rerouted) and the soot from the EGR cooler. I let it soak in solvent for a day, washed it in hot water w/ lots of degreasers and it was still dirty. A pressure washer finally did the trick. This tar gunk was also down in the intake ports of the heads, got those cleaned too. As far as fuel economy I would say not much. However I havent puked since I did all of this stuff. I hope this answers your questions and then some.

There is another thread on the subject that ked me to this item.

eBay Motors: Ford 6.0 Diesel EGR Eliminator - Spool W/clamps - bolts (item 280299820126 end time Feb-04-09 07:53:14 PST)

I bought it, and the guy was fast, honest, and it is a whole lot easier than what you have linked above.

I bought one a few months ago. I haven't installed it yet. I have been reading all the threads on this site regarding EGR options and still not clear on whether this would help or not. What I believe is that this spool will prevent exhaust gas from entering back through the engine, I may be OK with no codes being generated - leave the existing valve plugged in and just mount valve on top of engine, but still need to do the delete at a future date when my warranty runs out?

On my 2005, I tried the idea of mounting the EGR valve in the engine well while it was connected (I had a spare so I disconnected the one in the engine per procedure to ensure it was closed, then I connected the harness to the spare). I still got a CEL.

Thanks Bismic. Now that you mention it, I think I remember you posted this on another EGR thread. I found this link to a device that is supposed to eliminate EGR codes from Mods: PPE EGR False Code Eliminator

I don't have a clue if this device works, is any good, could do any damage, etc. I just searched google trying to find EGR aftermarket products. Even if it did work OK, it is a pricey option for what you get.

Thanks for pointing that out, not sure how I could have missed that, I thought I read the PS 6.0.
