Well, I have 19,8xx miles on my 05 F350 and the brakes and power steering started to vibrate and knock very loud. I am 4 months out of my 36 month warranty. The dealer said it would take $900 to fix the hydroboost, so I called the 1-800 for Ford and they said that they could not help me, in foact they were rude. After all the crap I put up with my last truck, 03 F250 6.0, with all of the turbo issues, I am done with Ford.
I currenty have my truck, 07 Fusion and an 09 Flex. I have had 15 new Fords in 14 years. This is the first time I kept one longer than the warranty. I am thinking about not fixing the truck and trading it for a new Dodge.
I do business with the dealer, so I didn't rant with them, that is why I called the 1-800 #. I am waiting for the dealer to call me back, at this point, they are going to give me 10% off the labor and my normal 22% off parts. Which I think is nice of them.
Am I out of line for thinking that Ford Motor Co, should take care of this?
ford has a program called after warranty to help people like us or a customer loyalty program through the dealer to help you get it fixed under warranty. the fmc dealer site is down on the customer satifaction side of the web page. it will be up tommarow
You do have low miles but you are still out of warranty. If Ford did this for you they would have to do it for everybod with low miles and just out of warranty. Sorry but I wouldn't do it either.
at the dealer i work at they can and do for good customers it is at the service corinator's decision. my dealership makes the decision and talks with ford and they usually fix the problem.
Do you think the 35" tires and dual stabilizers MIGHT have something to do with degrading the power steering fluid or overworking the power steering box and power steering pump?
Seriously, this is not just Ford not covering your warranty.
I'd bet that more than half the dealers in the US would refuse your warranty claim based on that alone, if you were still under warranty in the first place. After it's up? I wouldn't have the nerve to even try
Thanks for the responses. I thought about the tire thing too, the service manager brought that up. If it was "actually" under waranty, he addmited they would have a hard time proving that, since my tires are not much wider than stock and have less actual contact with the road than the stock tires, because of the tread. I had one other issue with the truck when it was under warranty, death wobble, but when the dealer couldn't solve the problem the first time, they hooked me up with a couple of service coupons when I told them I would just put dual stabilizers on the steering. The wobble went away and I used the coupons on our Fusion services.
It is frustrating, because of the low miles and since it is not used for any type of comercial work, the truck is immaculate, not abused. It is hard to swollow $900 because of a couple of months. They didn't do anything for me with the last truck, and I was with out a truck for a lot of time. I just gave up and traded it for this one and stuck someone else with problems. That one was having problems with its THIRD turbo when I traded it.
I was just amazed at how quickly the 800 number drew a line in the sand. I am not pretending to be any better than a first time better, but lets be real, I have bought a lot of cars from them and I think that this one time, they should make a concesion. I know it sounds like I am whining and I probably am. I am just very frustrated.
With the auto makers struggling, I'm not surprised the customer service people just drew that line in the sand the way they did. I'm sure they are under a directive that goes like this: "Deny everything possible".
I'd stick with the truck. $900 isn't all that much.
WHAT EXACTLY is wrong with it? The hydroboost itself? Or the steering box, or what?
Funny, if that death wobble was that bad for long enough, I wonder if it grenaded the steering box and pieces went into the hydroboost? Not that it helps you any, but if you do get the work done, I'd make sure they flush everything VERY well.
Sorry the hear of your problem, but that's the breaks. The warranty is 3/36 not 3.167/36. I've bought several Ford vehicles over the years myself and have never expected them to extend my warrantee out of the goodness of their heart. As Krewat stated, in today's economy all manufacturers are probably sticking very firmly to the terms of the warrantee. I know it sucks, but you're willing to spend X times $900 to get another vehicle vice paying $900 to get it fixed? Unless there are other issues or just want something different, that doesn't make sense to me.
Its all the dealer. Depends on if they want to fix it or not. I have experience with this on my 06. My LOCAL ford dealer is a piece of *****, I have to drive 90 minutes to get a REAL dealer.
I run into issues like this from time to time at my job. The only difference is that it is air conditioning equipment, not cars. It helps to have a dealer that you have done a lot of business with, but they are not obligated to do anything for you as we all agree. I usually try to help out when it's a good customer, but tough financial times make those decisions a little harder. Good luck which ever way you choose to go.
i'd like to know how u figure going over to Dodge will remove ur repair bill???, either now or in the future.
first off no one is gunna take ur truck in on trade for anything if it needs repairs..
secondly Dodge trucks dont exactly hold their value nor have the best reliability reports..
and lastly Dodge trucks feel incredibly cheap.. if it werent for the Cummins motors in them, i bet Dodge trucks would have been dropped from the Chrysler lineup years ago...
p.s. not sure what else to tell you, but my 03 F250 has 200000MILES on it and the steering is fine...needs a new stabilizer but the overal feel and performance of the steering system is perfect...
If all that is wrong with your truck is the $900 fix, I would just fix it and move on. You will overpay more than that on a new purchase if you make the decision when you are pissed off at the truck.
If you like the truck, Tax and registration is more than $900, and at least you know what you have.
Besides will Dodge be around in 2 years?
I never sell a vehicle because of a pending repair, the repair is always less than just the tax and license on anything to replace it.
First, this is just another example of poor customer service from Ford. I doubt that they have any idea about the mods and they flat out said no on a $40-50K vehicle that's only 4 months over the warranty. At least the dealer is giving you some kind of a break.
As for the problem, isn't there something aftermarket to fix the hydroboost? I've heard lots of people having problems with this and if I were to foot the repair bill I'd at least try to put something in that's better than stock.
Sorry it sucks to be barely out of warranty, but warranty is warranty. Like was said, Ford doesn't have the money to help anyone out right now anymore than they absolutely have to.
IF and it's a big IF something were to happen to Ford, even people with a warranty would be screwed.
Keep the truck, it's not worth it to get rid of it and go to a company that is looking to get bought by people from India (you know, Indians?) Mahindra....
