If you do that, you will not be able to see your information center or radio displays because they dim for night use.
This is what I do. I can still see the radio and the LCD readouts without any major issues.

I don't use black tape, though. My wife insists I carry a little bean bag stuffed lady bug in the truck as a good luck charm, it seems to stay pretty well on the little sensor unless my driving gets real radical.

Wait I just remembered something. Doesn't your switch have a ON position? Sounds better than tape on your dash, where is this thread going? I'd rather hear suggestions like install a set of driving lights and keep one of your upfitter switches on, it'll kill power to them when you shut the key off and come on when you turn the truck on. Not to mention they will look cool, better than tape on your dash, anyway.

Here in Canada we've had daylight running lights for many years. I don't like them only because with all vehicles having lights on, it makes motorcycles much harder to see. Years ago, the motorcycle riders (at least the smart ones) were the only ones with headlights on. Now motorcycles need to run full highbeams to have any chance of being seen in the daytime. Ride like you are invisible, because the truth is that you really are.

Some trucks are equipped with a switch that has an AUTO setting (one click to the left from off) that is designed to turn your lights on for you when it gets dark. They shut the lights off when you turn the key off (after a short delay).

Some owners like me fool the system by placing a light barrier over the sensor, so the truck thinks it is always dark.

Yeah my Lariat has this, I just leave it on Auto. Did anybody get an answer on the dealer reprograming it?

Here is a bulletin (link below) put out by Ford about the DRL's on the '08-up SD's and '09 E-Series. While it does not tell exactly how to do it (a good tech should know how to programm a SJB), it does show that it can be done. This may help some of you whos dealers do not believe that it can be done...

Finally found a dealer that will enable the DRL. Persistence pays off.

Works like a charm on my 08 Kia Sedona, my 04 Crown Vic, and my 04 F250 SD CC LWB 2WD V10

For the Crown Vic I prefer to just keep a folded washcloth laid over the sensor. For the Kia and the F250 we use a small black plastic cap sitting over the sensor.

My older Crown Vic with its sensor recessed in the fake vents behind the real windshield defroster vents used an inch long piece of popsicle stick.

You can use the black tape over the sensor, but then all your lights are on. Ford makes them only available for fleet for some stupid reason. When I bought my truck, I asked the dealer to turn them on for me in the SJB and it was done before I picked up truck. I put them in my 05, but I used a Ford DRL Module that required splicing. At the time I was unaware that it was a parameter change in the SJB. There are actual instructions in the tech manuals that tell the tech which parameter to enable.

Mine has the auto light feature that one day I discovered can be a headache. I was following my brother to the beach when we stopped to eat he asked me why I kept flashing my lights? Turns out the sun was low so every time I drove in an area with tall trees beside the road my lights would come on. Then when it got open they would see the sun and turn off. As we continued our trip I noticed my lights were going on and off for a long part of the trip. I wondered how many people thought I was flashing them to wartn them of speed traps....lol

That's why I just cover my sensor up and leave the lights on. I dare someone to pull out in front of me (red truck with headlights and fog lights on) and say they didn't see me.
