Yep- Lost my IDM a little over a year after I bought the truck.
RF wheel bearings quit about 100 miles from home on a 500 mile round trip about 3 years in. Each were about $1000 repairs.
does anyone else always think something is not right with the truck or that something is about to break and you need to fix it
Na. That's why I've done so my to my truck already. Pop the hood and not much oem from Ford still there.
J-yard electric fans, no shroud. IH water pump and SD idler. Custom HPOP housing, custom turbo and mount. Custom fuel system and air filter. Custom glow plug system. Changed and re-routed all boost and vac lines. Dang near everything has changed from it's stock configuration.
The key is to plan time to 'Fix the things that haven't broke yet'.
Example:
Moan to the wife, "Yeah, that darn fuel pump is leaking again." So you 'ask' for money and put in a custom electric fuel system.
"I can't believe that water pump is leaking now." 'Ask' for more money and put in a new IH water pump with integral filter.
"Stupid turbo! This dang thing is a money pit." More money and an H2E on the way.
"I think the exhaust is leaking." 3" down pipe and straight 4" exhaust.

Yea thats me. I am led foot but I babby the truck when I drive it. But drive the car like a madman. Think it has something to do with hanging around here too much. But then there are those days where the truck seems like it is not up to par and that strange sound you never heard before and the days where it seems to what to fly. I now see that Xanax should be a part of the FTE experience
If I'm at home and it breaks, it breaks. I never think about it and if I can't fix it right away, I drop the tools and walk away for a while (get on this site). What really, really bothers me is when I'm on a trip and it breaks. I feel so stressed (even if I can fix it) because its all I've got for a ride. For example, this trip I'm on now, I'm 4,500 miles into it and I've had the trans rebuilt, water pump replaced, HX line leak-replaced and the 5er's rear axle leaf springs broke almost causing a serious accident. Being stranded in a strange place is not a very comfortable feeling for me, besides my wife complaining to all her family about all the troubles we are having. Like everybody else just cruises alone without any problems. No, not us, I'm the terrible machanic who drives an old piece of crap. My daughter said to me, Dad, the 09's are coming out. To me, that is an insult. They just don't understand that my truck is ten times better then the crap they sell now adays. Thanks for letting me vent and sorry that this was so long. Later

My wife used to tell me the same thing.
I still have an OBS here as a daily driver. Yup, they just don't make them like that anymore.
i wouldn't buy a new truck...as far as the feeling that something is about to break, from all i've heard you wouldn't gain anything there with a newer ford anyways. and they're ugly to boot!
i firmly believe my truck has another 300k or so to give me (at least) if i take care of her...that's why i spend so much time here, cause i knew zilch when i bought her (besides that she was exactly what i wanted lol)

Your saying what I thought I would hear, I'm not the only one getting a bunch of noise about my 'old' truck. I pull into camp grounds and see a bunch of new new trucks and the next day I'll fly by them on a mountain grade. I wish I could see the expressions on their faces of what my 'old' truck can do!! Yes, I have to repair it once in a while, don't we all?
i don't want a new truck either just the money to do all the "preventative maitence" aka new turbo and clutch and sd hpop that would make me feel like it wouldn't break as easy
