fuel milage

I have a 93 f 150 5.0 auto it only gets 13-14mpg on hwy i need more than that at least 15-16 is something wrong with this truck or is ther anything i can do to get more mileage

What type of gearing, and transmision, 4x4 or 2x4 with manual or auto locking hubs, and any after market?

the more you put in your post, the more you will get out of our posts.

leaving out important info: mileage, condition, kind of trans. etc does not make it easy to help you.

Cheap date? Brass cap & rotor, good wires( I like MSD low resistance superconductors) to get max benifit out of stock coil, w/ Motorcraft coppers sidegaped . It takes a vice, a dremel & 10 mins.(if your norm gap .054- go w/ .052)Save Gas And Incerase Horsepower By Side Gapping Spark Plugs - Viewing All Comments &.Performance Unlimited 4-Wheel & Off Road Center - Hartford, Wisconsin - USA Technical Documents Mr. Gasket "Balanced Preformance" Thermostat puts you in closed loop much faster. To reduce deposits in combust. chambers, 2/3 can "Seafoam" thru Brake Booster vac hose at warm idle,shut off for 10-15 mins. then restart and rev repeatedly til smoke clears & pour 1/3 can into gas tank..Advance timing , Aim for 14BTDC, settle for what your ping less condition allows. 12 should be easy. If you would like more, Flushing cooling system & adding a can of seafoam to oil to desludge your engine a day or two before changing (good time to go Synthetic+ 1qt. Lucas Synth.Oil Stabilizer),pulling EGR to make sure valve & port oriface is clear. And switch to K & N air filter replacement. Thoose steps all help keep the cumbustion chamber temps at acceptable levels & avoids ping (also increases engine life!) Run all scans w/o error codes showing before any timing advancements are made. If O2 sensor in the 60K range or more, replace. If less, remove & douche w/ MAF cleaner or Electronic Contact Cleaner & reinstall. Then reset your KAM (Kept Addaptive Memory) to rebuild learned tables entries by disconnecting battery for 5 minsHow ECUs Use Closed-Loop Controls to Make Fueling Corrections v1.02 - Mazda Forums . If you want to do the timeing advance Let me know & I'll go into more detail.. When your done. it"s your choice. If you Drive like gas is 4 bucks a gallon You should pick up at least 2 MPG. Or, the same MPG you got before but alot more fun to drive! The next logical step is MAP to MAF Mod. then hardware mods (intake, cam, headers, speeding tickets, traffic school, assigned risk, ect...) Cyl. Compression check incld..bleed down , Vac Pressure check & Fuel pressure check w/ Bleed down help get your ducks in a row. The things mentioned are what has worked well for my 87' 5L over the last 10k miles.(I'm strarting the MAF mod this week) Anyway, there's your list of fun things to do in your spare time while further reducing your carbon whatever! ymeski56,,,,,, Great solid mileage information, Side gaps were used on Ford Cosworth F1 Engines so it must be a good performance trick.
