I have the Ford PowerCode remote start on my '08 F-150. Seperate one-button unit. The truck sat for about 5 days, and today I hit the remote as usual.......nothing. No lights come on, no horn beep,....nothing. I use the keyless entry, which works fine, and use the key to start the truck. Starts fine, everything works fine, but no remote start. Seems weird as it worked fine the last time I used it. I bought the truck new in August, and it was dealer installed. Batteries in both remote start units are ok. What would make it not work now? Any ideas? HELP! Thanks in advance for your help!
Troubleshooting Gen 2
Remote Start Systems
• 2 beeps - hood open, or brake pressed
• 3 beeps - door open (Gen 2 systems monitor the door ajar wire)
• 4 beeps - Tach not programmed (if running tachless, make sure the tachless feature is enabled)
• 5 beeps - Key In Sense (thinks key is in the ignition)
• 6 beeps - Service mode (the LED will give you a blink, blink, pause pattern.)
^That's the only troubleshooting ideas I could find in the Ford tech files I have. But I guess yours isn't beeping at all. Sounds weird to have it go totally dead, check to see if the harness is fully plugged into the brain unit. Maybe the PATS bypass module is messed up or needs reprogrammed. But still in that case, I think it would still beep and try to start it but it wouldn't actually crank over.
Well, you previously said you got this one dealer installed with the warranty, so have them fix it.
the brain unit should be tied up under your dash on the driver's side. It's a black box about 4"x5" by 1" thick.
Just seems strange it would go dead after sitting a few days. I've had any problems with my Ford system in almost 5 years now, and my truck has sat for up to 2 weeks before.
SteveVFX4, I went out and located the box. Harness seemed to be in tight, but I jiggled it to be sure. Remote start worked, but I have a few questions. Remote works when within 10' of the truck, but not further away. Also, I'm not sure I have the sequence right, but when I push the remote start the horn beeps once then the engine starts, then the lights come on. I thought before the horn beeped once, then the lights came on, then the engine started. I read some comments on one of the forums while researching my problem, and someone said the cold weather could be a factor. While the truck sat for a week we had cold weather, freezing rain, and an ice storm. One of the posts I read on another forum said that if there is a PATS key used and it gets very cold that could be the problem. Seems possible as they also said that it would start when they were close to the truck, but not from a distance. Anyway, you know my progress so far, and I hope that the cold weather/cold PATS key is the problem. I really appreciate your help, and any further information you could give me will certainly be appreciated. Thanks again!
I'm no expert in this matter, just a novice do-it-yourselfer. I've worked with 3 of the Ford systems so far.
Sounds like you might be getting to the root of your problem. I've never had the cold weather problems, but what I've also read/heard too that it is usually due to the PATS bypass module, most likely need to re-adjust the antenna ring for it. I'd tell you dealer exactly what's wrong and hopefully their tech can fix the PATS bypass issue.
Yeah, usually the horn beeps and the parking lights come on first, then it will start.
SteveVFX4, I believe it was the truck sitting for a week in cold weather that was the problem. Drove it a while this morning, and remote works. I purposedly left the driver's door ajar and tried to remote start the truck. Horn beeped, lights flashed, and horn beeped 3 times to alert me to door ajar. It seems to be working fine now, and I did read of similiar problems with the cold weather on another forum. Hopefully it will be ok now, and I won't have to make a 50 mile trip to the dealer. Again, thank you for all your help and responses; I appreciate all your help!
Thank you very much for the indications on the beeping and the corresponding problem. My alarm beeps once, delays for about 5 seconds and then beeps 5 times. What do I do if the key is not in the ignition but it is beeping 5 times? Any advice you can provide is greatly appreciated.
Factory Installed remote starter not working with 5 beeps
I have a 2008 expedition with a factory installed remote starter. One little keyfob with one button. My truck was running the other day and I depressed remote fob until it beeped 1 time and kept the truck running so I could pull the keys and lock the truck. 1 few minutes passed and the truck shut istself down. I re-depressed the fob to restart the vehicle and the truck beeped at me 5 times and hasn't worked and beeps 5 times I press fob ever since.
