DP Tuner/VB preferences?

Does it make any difference good or bad with which valve body I use with my future DP Tuner?

I'm looking at BTS, John Wood or Gregg Evans. The JW and GE are the same price, I'm assuming the BTS will also be about low to mid 200.00.

Do I pick one over another or just find the best shipping deal if they all cost about the same?

thanks

They are all close to the same,BTS you have to drill a plate,JW sets it up the way you want it to shift (no drilling )

I kinda like the fact Gregg Evans starts with a new VB

Why not get a Transgo kit, and do the same thing yourself? And.. Save a lot of money. The Transgo HD2 kit cost about $65.00 and the tugger kit cost $100. Both kits involve mods to the accumulator vb, the main vb, and for some apps, the solenoid pack. If your fairly mechanically inclined this is a great mod. BTW. Jody will have to tune for BTS or Transgo, I'm not sure about JW. Just make sure to tell Jody which one you have, so he can tune accordingly.

I thought I read somewhere there were no new cores available anymore and they are all recycled/reused cores now.

I just went with the BTS since I was in a hurry though the transgo and tugger kits have proved to be simple and just as good.

I always heard that Jody develops his tunes with the JWVB in mind. That this one will work the best with his tuning. That is the one I will get.

Something's strange then if you don't have to have the tunes setup to match the changes in the tranny. It's FAR better to have the mods done in the tranny so they don't have to call for increased line pressures in tuning. Something to do with the pump and how it's flow is routed with a mod'ed tranny vs. calling for more line pressure when the shifts are short in hardware. I wish I could find where I read that, but I can't remember.

Yes that is correct. If you go with the JW valve body you don't need new tunes. If it has been over 2 years since you got new tunes and you have the F5 chip then I would get them updated just to have the new stuff Jody has been working on. Jody and John have been working very closely together for about 2 years now. If you have any questions as to why you don't need new tunes if you just recently got a new chip I would email Jody or John. Though getting a complete rebuilt trans I believe would be different.

I may shoot Jody an e-mail, and find out what mine was tuned for as far as line pressures and such. I think i may have told him i was getting the JWVB when I got my tunes. I still don't have the valve body yet though, and i'm not thrilled with the way my tranny shifts.

Just want to see what it was setup for, and if it matters one way or the other.

OK, JW it is. Thanks for all the input, just wanted to see if one was better than another, even marginally.

I researched the installation pages for the transgo and lets just say that auto trannys and I have a history and I'm not going to temp fate. A bolt on VB suits my comfort level and will be one less thing to worry about, down the road.

I also had concerns of what Gregg Evans stated- that increase of line pressure through software without provisions (I assume valves and springs) is not good for a pump. But with Diane endorsing the JW I assume it's covered and with no drilling for the plate, it's game on.

Thanks again everyone!

Got the cooler covered Joe.

When I do the VB yes, I will switch to synthetic ATF.
Same with the engine, next change.

As it gets closer to install date I'll research and probably post some questions on how to do a through drain of the old fluid.

getting closer...................
