I,m another one thats a little paranoid about operating on the tranny although you have tons of install experience here with these shift kits. Thanks Diane for that info, that confirms it for everybody here, thanks.
I'm just going to come out and say it. I'm not very confident in a tranny mod that still calls for SW tuning for increased line pressures/shorter shifting. Ideally, the tranny should be doing this on its own, and the tuning should be set up to match the much better shifting tranny, IMHO. I guess you could argue six in one, half dozen in the other, but from what I read, it IS better to have the tranny hardware mods instead of relying on tuning. Look at it this way -- when you get a "built" tranny, it usually has a TransGo kit in it. Even BTS and SunCoast use TransGo parts, so that's good enough for me. You can either pay for BTS to do the VB mods, or do them yourself. Honestly, I have no idea how JW's mods do what they do since he doesn't use a plate, like the TransGo kit, so I may just be blowing smoke for no reason. I'm not an expert.

I don't know what the difference is Joe. But I had to install a plate before the VB on the BTS.
Not really, Rick. The question is what mods is HE is doing vs. what the TransGo kit (and Brian, consequently) does. Since Diane is telling us the tunes for the stock VB work with the JW VB, there's obviously a difference. To my (feeble) understanding, the HW mods done in the tranny are more desirable than the tuning mods only. I was always under the impression until Diane's post that the JW VB did what it did like the rest, but I knew there was no plate because another member that posted that info a while back.
What I am suspecting is that he has the VB setup to Jody's stock tunes, not the other way 'round, like is done with the TG-type VBs. I don't know enough to know FOR SURE that one is better than the other, but the little I have looked at says the mod'ed tranny is better, then get the tunes set up to match it. I wish Mark Kawalski would chime in with this. I've noticed he chimes in on every tranny thread except the ones that discuss mod'ing them. Maybe he's bound by being an ex-employee to not discuss this type of thing, but if anyone would know about the TG kits and the benefit, it would be him in my mind.
Joe I think what you're saying is correct per my thinking
I want my trans set up just like I was gonna run stock then work the tunes around that
this is the way Gregg Evans thinks and BTS I think,I'm not sure about JW but will find out before I order a VB

I told Brian I was getting the DP and I told Jody I was getting the BTS-VB. Is this not nessary any more if the VB is set to stock tunes?
Rick, is it not required to get new tunes if you are getting a JW valve bod. What Brian is doing is different from JW so yes you need new tunes with the BTS VB. This is what Jody has told me.

Thanks Diane. I guess JW ask a lot more questions then Brian does. I don't know enough about this to understand what the difference is. But, I guess there is one.
