Help please

I need some help. I got the Stanco 586-902 GPR to replace the old one (see pic) thats not working. I've seen all of the really good posts about replacing these, but my old one looks a little different. It has some weird bar across it with wires split? It sounds like it might be a GPCR? My truck is a 99.5.

Any help would be appreciated!! ( I will add pics when I can figure how )

It sounds like your right with the GPCR. I only have the stock relay on my truck, so I am really not much help. Where in the Central Coast are you? I am in the 5 cities area.

It sounds like you have a CA version of the 7.3L if so the stancor unit will not work.

Live in Paso Robles. I was excited about using this Stancor unit since its supposed to be heavy duty, but looks like the wrong way to go.

Question GPCM, not GPR

Ok, I feel a bit lame, but my truck is Calif., mfg. on 3/99 with a GPCM, not a GPR. Has anyone heard how to test this GPCM? my issues are hard to start cold. batteries good, fuel filter good, fresh fuel. THanks for any help!

The GPCM is a rectangular box with 2 large plugs on it. The early CA models used the round GPR that had a spreader bar coming off of one of the posts. I'll see if I can find some pictures for you.

If you have a GPCM, it will set a CEL (check engine light) if it's faulty.

Edit: Here's a little more info on the subject. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...on-trucks.html I've sent a PM to Chase since it looks like he deleted his photos from the thread to see if he will share them here.

Sounds like a Cali truck to me... all you need to do is a simple re-wire of the GPR and you'll be golden. Jody @ DP Tuner sent me this pic when I did my PCM swap since the later trucks were wired up differently. The only thing you'll lose by doing this is that a dead GP won't set off the SES light now.

Don't thank me, thank Jody at DP Tuner, he sent me that pic! Glad I could help out. On my truck I left all 4 wires connected, so far so good.

Chase.

I put in the Stanco just like the pic., I can hear a click now when key on, but still no voltage (0) going to output post, and still hard cold start. Power to other 3 posts ok. any ideas where to look next? Thank-you!!

If you're not getting +12v across the relay then it's no good... can you jump the relay with a screwdriver and get it to light the glow plugs?

Cool p.o.s gpr!

I think I need to get this truck to a mechanic. With key on, there is 12v to each small post., and power in to battery post, 0 v outgoing (other large post) I tried using the screwdriver across both large posts and got sparks, shocked, and smoked all over the place. Burnt the sh;; out of my thumb. Not a succesfull day. Im thinking the stancor will not work in the early99 with gpr with split-t off one side. ?? TIme for a cold one or 8!
