yes and no, it will bolt right in, differences are in programming and i think the converter clutch is built different, and it has an exra sensor, the wire harness would not work and your pcm wouldnt operate it quite right.

Your 96F e4 is analog the 4r is digital.
Allthough there are E4's that are digital.
