You have a Deluxe 5-Star Cab truck, it came equipped with some other options that regular cab trucks didn't have. Some of the options are: extra grille bards on the sides of the hood, stainless trim around the windshield, chrome glass division bars and vent window frames, dome light, two-tone upholstery, door armrests and trim panels, cigar lighter, driver's side door lock, and a few more that I forget.
The driver's side door mechanism lock is similar to the passenger side. This is what the passenger side looks like:
This is what a regular cab truck driver's side door lock mechanism looks like:
Notice the absence of the piece at the bottom of the square. Deluxe trucks door lock mechanisms were identical to the passenger side, except they were the mirror image.
The door lock cylinder shaft goes through the very bottom hole (refer to my first picture). There should be two access holes in the side of your door (closest to the handle and lock cylinder). The hole on top is for the screw that holds the door handle in place. The hole below is the for the screw that holds the lock cylinder in place. Use a flashlight to look inside. It's a small allen-type cylindrical screw that could be tough to remove. Most of the time, the head of the screw gets stripped when tried to remove. However, since your truck has been restored, you probably won't have any problems. Nonetheless, I'd spray it with a lubricant for a day or two before attempting to remove it.
Hope this helps.
But, it was 'ol Henry's idea, as he didn't want people standing out in traffic fiddling with a left door lock cylinder, so most Ford's didn't offer one till the late 1940's.
One reason why: Most streets back then did not have painted dividing lines in them like they do today. It was a nightmare, with vehicles weaving in/out of traffic.
The left door lock cylinder became standard equipment on cars in 1949, optional on trucks.
The left door lock cylinder was optional thru 1962 on some trucks.
I was just screwing with Ilya's picture of the door lock, I just mirrored the original image. He said the driver's door mirrored the passenger's door so I would assume my image would be good for reference.
I've said it before, and I'll I say it again, great minds think alike!
Bob's modified image is exactly how the left side looks.

I don't think that you can weld the bottom piece for the door lock. You'd need to buy a new door lock mechanism. None are being reproduced for the 5-Star Extra cab. Only the regular version. You'd have to hunt one down. When and if you find one, be prepared to pay.
The 5-Star Extra cab stuff is really pricey and somewhat hard to find depending on the part.I've been lucky enough to have a few 51/52 trucks with the 5-Star Extra cab options come through my hands. I've stripped them of the parts (doors, glove boxes, windwhields, dual horns, etc.) so that I have the parts to convert both of my Panels into the 5-Star Extra cabs.
I have an extra set in the garage and I'm pretty sure the drivers side has the lock. there's pictures in my #2 gallery if you want to look.
Send me a PM and we can work something out.
Best

Please let me know what you want for the drivers side door.

thank you

The spring clip is not being reproduced. I thought I found a replacement for it, but the new clip didn't fit.

If you are, I know it's the right part, otherwise I wouldn't have offered it as such.
And, you are incorrect, the latch is complete. The spring clip is installed, and annotated in the photo. It's just difficult to see with the angle of the camera.
Or perhaps you were looking at the photos of the latch I disassembled in steps to photograph in a post showing another member how to restore his latch.
I refurbished this one myself, it is fully functional, and ready for installation.
For those of you who want to restore your latches, C&G Ford Parts sells latch springs for 35-47 Ford trucks which is exactly the same as those in the 48-52 trucks. I'm not sure about the part numbers being the same, but it IS the same spring. Here's a picture:
I appreciate the QA on my part though Panelman, thanks

This is the picture that I looked at. I assumed that this is the mechanism that you were referring to.

And this is the clip that I was talking about. Note that the door lock is in the unlocked position. (See picture below to see the latch in the locked position.)

This is what the same area looks like without the clip. Note the groove in the riveted part. This is where the clip sits when the door is locked from the inside (and keeps it locked).

The clip that I'm talking about is missing most of the time. This clip helps keep the INNER door lock handle from sagging and allows you to lock the door and keep it locked from the inside. I haven't been able to find an exact replacement for this clip. I have a few that are close in shape, but they don't fit.
In my opinion, the door lock assembly is practically useless without this clip unless you don't care about being able to lock from the inside. However, this doesn't matter if you have the exterior door lock cylinder in the driver's door, as you'll be able to lock the door from the outside.
Besides the picture you posted from my gallery above is a passenger side anyway.....Right, silly boy?
The picture I was thinking of was deleted - my mistake. I've sent the correct pictures to the person who inquired.
Thanks though,
J!
