So here it goes. Took my truck about 4 years ago to dealer cause it wouldn't fire unless you gave'r a spray of ether (OOOOOOOO HATE THAT) and they put a new glow plug relay. So about 2 years ago wouldn't start so I bought one and put one on. NOW 2 years later we are at the same situation. Cycle glow plugs about 3x and sometimes it will fire. I haven't look at the truck since it is dark, but is there a real way to test the GPR or a way to check the GPCM? How do I determine if it is one of the above or acutally the glow plugs? I know there is some one out there that can help me!
If it has a GPR you check the voltage on one of the large posts, one is B+ the other goes to glow plugs
Turn ignition on and within about 1 1/2 minutes check voltage on switched post

Excursions are technically "California" trucks, so they don't have GPRs, they have the GPCM in place of the GPR. There is something that looks just like it, but don't be fooled.
Thanks guys, I do have a GPR on my truck, ive read a few post about there being somekind of a small silver box there I don't have one of them on my truck. I ended up going and getting a new one from Auto Value. When I got the old one off, the inside of it I could poor pieces and dust into my hand, put new one on and gonna give'r a test today, it has been down right cold last couple days! Gotta another ? for ya. Where the fancy little cover is that covers fuel filter there is a relay at "9 oclock" and then there is a relay at "10 oclock" which is the gpr, anyone know what the other one is for?!
