Got new parts on the way....i just ordered a new (well, remanufactured) Edelbrock 600CFM carb for my 390. The old one was dumping so much fuel that i was only getting 4 MPG and it flooded every time i stopped. So i got tired of that **** and ordered a new carb. BTW, JEGS customer service guys ROCK. Hoooked me up with the Carb, fuel line kit with filter, gaskets and adapters for a mere 283 bones. Install on saturday!
Anyway, the whole point is now that my truck is about to road worthy again, its time to turn my attention to the fact that i dont have a stereo. So i need advice. i checked out retrosounds.com, and they seem to have a cool unit, but i was wondering what the rest of you guys have done with your In Truck Entertainment. Speakers, head units, amps.....i hunger for your knowledge.
Super Beaner, you got a 390FE! :)
390FE + duel exhaust = cool *** stereo
Alvin the stupid ugly old Gringo in AZ
ps- if you gotta get speakers at least get efficient ones, with at least
93dB per watt per meter, for every 3dB increase that's twice as loud
using the same electricity, but there's more ;) they are quiet when
they are supposed to be and loud when they are supposed to be,
so the music sounds more open and clean.

Carburetors flood due to the floats not being set correctly. Simple Voodoo of about 0.00 Bucks to fix it...Well possibly a buck or two for a new gasket.
The stock radio can be modified by persons to look stock and house all new high power components RCA, USB inputs and outputs.
A good trick today is just use your I pod, Zoon or MP3 player like a Walkman and place a amp behind the seat, good speakers and LOTS of dampening to knock down the tin can of the cab.
Then there really no reason for someone to look in the truck see all your neat toys in the dash and steal it. As all runs off the I pod, Zoon or MP3

Yep, what Garbz said. :)
...and Jegs salesmen don't rock as good as "we" do danggit! :/
We would have helped you fix your old carburetor for next to nothing.
...instead of selling you a new un-needed carburetor.
Use us. ;)
We are here to help.
I'm retired on disability and got nothing better to do.
I know my pickup inside and out, had it for one month shy of 34 years.
Probably should have asked first. I know next to nothing about carbz.....all i know is every holley ive ever had has sucked, so i kinda jumped at the chance for an edelbrock....my brother has two and he loves them. anyway, im probably gonna need help with adjusting it. ill holla!

Funny my experience has been the other way around.
Edlebrocks are made by Carter and of all the carburetors I worked on and
modified there were two I couldn't get to work right and they were both
Carters. LOL :) It's a cryin shame too because they -look- like real good
stuff on their insides. :/ Metering rods seem like such a cool idea and all.
Holley's have always been "too" easy because they've always worked. ;)
I've never had a need to modify a Holley.

Cool. :)
I personally won't be able to help you with the Edelbrock tho. :/
First thing for you to do is read everything you can find on your model
of carburetor. Many questions will be aswered before you even know to
ask 'em. :) But more important you won't be asking waste of time
questions, waste of time for everyone, but especially for you.
since ive got your attention, i need to know if i bought the right size. ive got a 390, and they recommended a 600 cfm carb. now i had the option to go for a 650 or 700, but i bought the 600. is that gonna be a big enough?
I've got the Eddy 600 with manual choke and mech secondarys on my "warm" 390 and it does nicely. If I had some headers a 650 would be nice but the 600 is great.
I've ran both, but I've always preferred the Edelbrock/Carter for it's superior adjustability. I spent my first 25 years at a mile high elevation, and there is no way to adjust the Holley's part throttle cruise mixture, it's dead simple with the Carter's metering rods.
with your flooding problem is easy on those too fix just adjust the floats you can download the carb manual from edelbrocks site and all you need to adjust the floats is a drill bit all you use it for is to determine if the floats are adjusted properly. the top comes right off the carb floats are attached to the top.
if the jegs part guy was really good he would have sold you a calibration kit for your carb which has jets metering rods and springs so you could tune your carb for peek performance.
about radio I put classic auto sound am-fm cass. with all wiring for cd and i pod.in my Mustang the only complait I had was light on radio was to bright at night.I get another for my truck .

The truck came with some old *** Heddman headers. Im thinking about putting some Hookers or something on it to replace them. Should i be thinking about a bigger carb for the headers/exhaust? if thats the case, ill just send this one back and get the 650. And by "warm" you mean?
First page of the instructions for an Edelbrock says if your installing it on a Ford You have to install a pressure regulator as They are set for the low 5# fuel pressure of a Chevy not the 7# that a Ford has. Or You guest it You may have a flooding problem. The other thing They may not have told You is if it don't work You need to buy a track pack $$$ so You can make adjustments

well ****. where do i get this regulator and how much does it cost? and what do you mean track pack? you cant just drop this kinda info on me and not explain, man! hook me up with the info, dood!
I have always heard it called a "strip kit". It consists of different sized metering rods, jets, needle & seats, and springs to fine tune the air fuel ratio of your carb for different phases of operation. At a mile high, I adjusted several to that nice grey color on the plugs and pipes by putting larger and larger metering rods in until it stumbled, then going back a couple sizes-then it's just right. A larger rod in the same size jet restricts the fuel flow and leans the mixture. Vacumm & throttle position moves the metering rods against springs. The rods are stepped (different diameters), so for different phases (full throttle, light throttle cruise, etc) there are different air/fuel ratios. This is controlled by the venturies in a Holley, and they are non adjustable. Changing the jets in a Holley only has a major affect at full flow, not part throttle.
I have never had a problem with fuel pressure on a Carter/Edelbrock. The floats don't flood all the time like Holleys seem to do. No leaks on a Carter either, as there are no gaskets below the fuel level. That's why they are approved for marine use.
