i guess the recession is hitting us

Today I went up to the Fort Ala Corne diamond mine north east of Prince Albert. The mine was not operating yet and planned to be openned in 2011. But I guess Shore Gold gave the notice to the employees on March 4th, that place will be shut down.

thats too bad. places and people don't realize that they should not be selling out and shutting down, but holding place. selling/closing ads to the problem... word has it that the potash mines in this area are still a go...

There were big layoffs announced at the potash mines as well just before Christmas, probably till March or so.
I`m sure by this spring things will look different from last year.

I thought gold was still holding it's value???? It's crazy what poor fiscal policy and stupid mortgage practice in 1 country can do to start a financial landslide, eh??? As long as the farmers keep buying fertilizer, I'm going to be just fine. All our product is already presold through the end of March. Hopefully that keeps up.

Im kinda relieved for one reason. I just about bought a ton of shore gold stock, it was dirt cheap a little while ago, I forget exactly what, I think it was around 44 cents a share or something crazy. It has been as high as 14 dollars a share.

Now with them shutting the mine a guy can keep an eye open again!

Same here when both Shore Gold and PCS looked very tempting when their share values plummeted but thankfully our financial adviser put the brakes on that......

Was tempting though eh Morris!

I did some figuring out, and the amount i was gonna invest, if it got over 10 bucks a share, i wouldnt have had to work anymore.

One of my buddies was telling me that all the mines are laying off and not hiring right now.

There`s no feeling like buying at a low share value only to watch it become almost worthless..............

thats weird... 3 guys that i've done work for all have just had their sons hired by the mining companies in the past month. 2 in lanigan, 1 in esterhazy...

i think that seasonal lay-offs and slowdowns are being mistook for a downturn in the economy because of whats happening south. i'm not stupid by thinking that we're not going to be affected, but lets be positive people...

That is weird Sherm. The one guy I know, specified lanigan as a location too.

I keep hearing people talking that in saskatchewan we should be fine, I can only hope on that. Go for a drive in saskatoon, I mean i see hiring signs everywhere.

I cant see alberta slowing down much either.

like i said... possibly seasonal lay-offs mistaken for other problems at hand. i know all the builders around here seem confident heading into a new year... i hope we stay afloat and ride it through. its so much harder to climb from the bottom!!!
