Just a guess out in left field, but, it might well be worth looking into.

I thought of that also, and the fact that the lower rad hose never warms up makes it sound like a possibility. It's only getting in the teens for temps right now currently it's only 10 degrees out so it's not fun doing this outside or in a non heated garage like mine.

The fact that your lower rad hose is cool or cold just means that it is doing it's job well and shedding heat from the system.

Don't you see the coolant circulating in the radiator with the cap off and the thermostat open?
The fact that both heater hoses are hot proves that the water pump is circulating the coolant.

Have a update on the situation. This problem has not gone away yet. In the past few weeks I have taken the water pump off verified that it is the same as the old one, put in a different t stat, and put the spring in the new lower hose from the old one. Yet this thing seems fine while idling (rad cap off) but then as soon as I start driving, it pukes antifreeze into the overflow, and I lose heat in the cab. It seems like the air will not work itself out. I'm almost at a loss, I'm frustrated at this truck, and to top it off it's been really cold here the last couple weeks, making it hard to do anything outside. Need help out of ideas.

Without reading over the whole thread again, what is the actual temperature of the engine? Just because it pukes out coolant doesn't necessarily mean it's overheating. A bad radiator cap can cause that.

Well, according, to the gauge I put in it's usually anywhere from 220 to 240, then when it hits a pocket of air the gauge maxes out to 280. I did get a new rad cap the style with the lever and it did'nt seem to change, even tried the old cap tonight, but no change.

280 is hot. You might need to take it somewhere and have them do a leakdown test on the coolant system and see if you have a blown headgasket or something like that.

A friend of mine said that too, so that's probably what I'll do next.

I still have to do a leakdown test, I have a friend that has the tester so it's just a matter of when I want to do it. I was so frustrated with the truck, and it was so cold this winter I parked it and borrowed my dads truck. I'm planning on working on it in the next month, and hopefully it will be back on the road soon.
