Need ECM, which one?
Looks like I need a new ECM. I have VDH4, should i bother trying to find any other programs? VDH5? I'm getting a used one because A) It's cheaper, B) Ford is backordered, C) I don't want to get it programmed.
Anyone have suggestions on the code?

PMT1 or PMT2 are probably the most preferred, not sure if those were offered in 02-03 though... Any PCM you find should be plug and play, no programming required. Just make sure to get one from an 02-03 as the pinout on the connector changed.

Unfortunately, you're stuck with what was offered in 02/03. However, there are a few tuners out there that can hook you up with shift characteristics of the PMT1 PCM in your DPC-462 PCM.
Oh, the reason an older PCM won't work is because of the communication bus used in the 02/03 trucks that the earlier ones didn't use (to keep it simple).

Nah. If you don't have a chip, then yes, you may notice a little bit different shifting strategy with a different series of PCM (VDH4 vs. VDH5). I don't know the exact differences off the top of my head for what Ford did differently between 4 and 5. Any DPC-462 PCM will work, but there may be a little difference.
