Hello Gentlemen,
I need to swap the ECM (i.e. PCM/TCM) on my early 2004 F250 6.0. I determined the proper ID for the ECM and located a replacement.
My question, is it possible to swap it in unprogrammed so I can test for resolution of my issue and to take it to be programmed? I have heard various things even that only '05+ actually store things like VIN in the ECM.
Is the new pcm from a wreck? So its already programmed? If thats the case put it in and run it for your testing purposes. Dont worry about the vin mismatch etc it will still run just fine...providing you matched up your pcm ID code.
For example I'm running a truck pcm in my excursion, for many reasons that are not important to your question...but it can be done.
One of the things is the electronic features like ESOF and door locks
and stuff like that. Just make sure that the base types are the same.
You can't use a gas PCM for a diesel and you want the same trans.
But I could be wrong on some of that. Also you might get a CEL
do to programming version mismatch between the modules.
