Hello all, I recently bought a totally stock 97 OBS PSD and within 500 miles the turbo locked up. I pulled the turbo and began looking for a replacement. I see some on ebay, but thought I would check with the ford-truck forum first. I am not opposed to aftermarket, but stock/new/used is fine.
I have a used one I am looking to sell. I will email you tonight about it. The only aftermarket bolt in turbo for our trucks is Bean's d-66 which runs just over $1000.
there is one reputable guy on ebay for turbo's......I think its Ron turbo or something along that line...IIRC he is out of Utah.......If you do not buy Tims(very reputable guy too) I know he has the guy from ebays contact info......and would be happy to pass it along
Welcome to FTE too....you will learn alot here and dont be afraid to ask!!!
I am looking forward to the email. Mine lost its bearings and the exhaust wheel thrust itself into the exhaust side housing...
I have seen several on ebay in various conditions and prices. I like the looks of the one that has a banks case and wheel, but it is likely to go expensive.
Not to hijack my own thread, but how does the rear bolt on the pedestal come out?
I currently have no hide left on my left arm and the right side of my head is bleeding... Tried to reach it from the bottom, kids were yelling, tried to climb out. Front sway bar did not give!
I finally got the bolt with a 3/8 10mm socket and universal with a 6 inch extension. Wasn't pretty and would not like to go through that again. Especially if the turbo has to be removed in the future for possible power adds.
I have a stock turbo as well if you need one. The Banks setup sounds like it's for a superduty. I wouldn't bee too excited about it. The stock OBS chargers are better.
The rear driversie bolt is tricky. I used a 1/4" drive socket with an swival to get to it. I think a lot of people with a swival socket too. In any case, make sure you have a good swival because those bolts really crack when they break loose.
The rear passenger bolt you can get with a wrench.
The turbo removal/install goes pretty quick once you know how to do it.
