hey guys, its time i buy some christmas presents for myself. i want to go with a dual-out cat back system for my truck. its a 2001 f-250 v-10, manual trans with 4.30's. i have a decent muffler shop to bend the pipe but i want to pick out my muffler. i have to go with catback due to emission testings here. i want to go duals dumping out back under my bumper. i here alot about Flowmaster and am kinda leaning that way. i want, as well as others ,to know i spent a few dollars on my exhaust so a nice rumble at idle and a decent roar at cruising speeds is what i need. so what do you guys suggest? is it worth the money on this truck? any other brands i might want to look at. i heard Flow master has a large selection of muffler config. so any help on what you guys run would help. i also would be more pleased with "hearing" my spent money rather than almost hearing it. thanks for the input.i have got my truck lookig good, now lets get it sounding good.:-staun
Since you have the V-10 it is going to sound somewhat "funny" or "a little different". My friend installed a borla cat-back system and it made his SD V-10 sound like it had a big 6 cylinder in it. It is pretty quiet. I have heard V-10's with glasspacks and all I can say is that it is somewhat of a different sound, loud but different. I would post your question in the Superduty forum becuase most of those meatheads never make it down here to the exhaust forum
I agree that the V10 is a tricky beast to make sound big. It really does sound like a big 6 for whatever reason. A Delta Flow 40 series Flowmaster would probably sound as good as any, just make sure you cap off your system with some nice big tips to rumble things up a little. I hear that by adding an x pipe to a V10 it will really deepen the sound. I heard a dodge V10 with the original 40 series FM dumped right behind the mufflers with some big 4 in tips and it sounded wierd. It was loud and sounded kinda cool, but very out of the ordinary.
The V10 is an odd beast... Doesn't sound deep and growly like a V8 but more like a peppy, high pitched sports car exhaust. I kinda like the Flowmaster 40 on it. I've read from another Ford enthusiast site about Spintech mufflers making the V10 sound awesome... but no firsthand experience here. Good luck...
