injectors waving bye?

Hi again. Hope everyone had a safe and fun holiday and new years! Holidays are always busier than expected... but what can you do... At any rate, my UVCH harnesses on both sides broke (don't ask haha), and so the new ones are in. I did notice though, the truck when cold started runs really quiet, and has no power if i lay into the pedal except randomly the power comes back and the clatter is really loud. Are my injectors saying their final goodbye? haha. I hope not. I know the UVCH is good, all injectors are receiving power and so I'm out of ideas.... Fuel filter is good, so no fuel starvation, fresh oil and filter....maybe fuel pump?

Mine tends to be quiet and gutless when the motor is cold also, but how cold are we talking here? When I say cold, I mean pretty durn cold... below zero at least.

I just got back to Tx and it was 31* this morn and it did it. Any time under 50* it will do it. Its not the EBPV activating either because the funny noise isn't there. Just the injectors getting really loud

What kind of oil are you running and how old is it? Does it run better when the engine is warm? IOWs is this only cold start cold weather related?

but water on my steps froze...so it must have been cold haha always seems colder than it is the way the motor throws a fit... We all went up to the mountains over Christmas and it was around 0* a couple nights and the truck didn't like that at all. No plug in, good glow plugs, the fancy starter with larger cajones than stock (haha), and good oil...took a couple tries and still was cranky.

I'm running Rot T that is less than a month old which is 15w40. I know 5w40 would be better but napa didn't have it and couldn't order it in time for our trip. The truck runs fine warm, only on a 'cold' start. Once the engine has been run a little and there is heat in the cylinders it runs great.

31 is freezing Chase, and more than literally. It was 84 here Saturday and today all the trees are covered in ice. Back to the 80's the rest of the week though.

Where in Tx are you? If you're close to me, we can put it on the AE and see if any issues show up. I'm 15 miles North of Hillsboro. Did you re-torque the rockers and injector bolts while you replaced the wiring?

Injectors are fine then. If you want to get rid of that cantankerous behavior when cold, run synthetic.

I'm out of Midland and Lubbock, so that would be quite a drive. I really appreciate the offer to scan the truck! Unfortunately I completely forgot to retorque everything... I should have though. Just replaced the wiring. When the UVCH went bad it was later in the afternoon and I ended up having some other things come up so the truck was parked until later in the evening when I had to work on it and the temps were around 15* at 10:30pm in an unheated garage... At that point I just wanted to be done haha...

31* is nearly tropical for this neck of the woods right now... I have around 4' of snow in my front yard. I wouldn't know how to handle 80* weather right now, I'd probably have a heat stroke
camodown if you are still having cold start problems, one trick to try is to turn the key on and let it sit for about a minute, then turn it off and do it again. There were a few times when I couldn't plug in when it was really cold, and by cycling the GP's a few times like this I was able to get the truck to start without much crankiness. I'm running Rotella T 15-40 also FWIW.

Changing to synthetic will make your truck seem like a COMPLETELY different beast. I always thought "yeah, it'll help some...."

At 10* F out she'll spin like it's 50* out. Seriously. No BS, no other changes. I don't even bother to plug my truck in any more, now that I'm running synthetic, except for the nights we had when it was -25* F overnight.

It will make that much difference

Next oil change I'll order the synthetic oil... I tried to order 5w40 syn from my napa but the warehouse had none for some reason, and I got impatient. I'll update when I get 5w40 put in, but that could be a little while... I wonder why the truck wasn't this cranky before i changed the oil... must be old age haha
