Fuel Additives

We've got a thread about tuners so I figured I'd stir the pot on addtives.

I know that a lot of the members use Powerservice, but after reading the report someone else posted it says that opti-lube XPD is better for the lubricity. Anyone out there use it? It's more expensive than power service, but is supposed to have anti-gelling agent in it just like powerservice has.

White bottle Powerservice in the winter, gray bottle in the summer. Sorry can't help any more than that.

If it is lubricity improvement you are looking for, then you want biodiesel 2% or better. No additive made even comes close to having 2% or more biodiesel in your tank for adding lubricity.

Yea, but doesn't bio gel like crazy? It gets cold up here and I want a truck I can rely on. That's why I bought a Ford in the first place. My main goals with an additive would be lubricity + anti-gelling properties.

At 2%, I don't think you'll have to worry about gelling since it will be mixed with the winter grade fuel you already have. If you're concerned about temp issues, many additives now cover bio from B5 - B20. I think Howe's guarantees no gelling up to B20 or they pay the tow.

For lubricity Powerservice is good, it sucks for anti-gelling. Every winter on this forum theres people gelling up on powerservice (white bottle) and all over my town as well. I use Howes in the winter, it doesnt gell. I pretty much use it all summer too.

I've used Power Service w/o any issues.

Based on one of the studies I've seen for how well they do ( http://www.johnfjensen.com/Diesel_fu...itive_test.pdf ), I'm going to be buying some Schaeffer's fuel additives from jtharvey.

Schaeffer Oil | Diesel Fuel Additives, Conditioners, Treatments

Their Premium Soyshield upgrades regular #2 to premium B2 Bio.

I generally fill at stations that use Bioblends though.

DK is what I am using now, its the only one I tried yet so I cant tell you its the best but it seams to work, and I haven't had any gelling issues yet.

2% biodiesel will not gel in ANY temperatures you will see in Connecticut.

I've been running Diesel Kleen in the grey bottle with no gelling, and we've had some cold (-20*) nights.
