I have this idea to put a light in my center console that would come on when I open the lid. I did a quick search and didn't come up with anything, so I thought that I would ask everyone.
When opening the center console at night, it is obviously pitch dark in there. I know that I could turn on the dome light, but 1. i'm lazy and 2. that still does not offer a whole lot of light.
I want something that will come on when I open the lid, and then go off when I close it. I do not really want anything on a switch. So i'm thinking about setting something up like the glove box with the thing that pushes in and the light goes out, you all know what i'm talking about. I would not think it would be too hard to wire up. Would anyone know where to find a part like this?
I thought about that and I looked at how the glove box is set up and it has a plug on it and I don't know if that could be had or not. I'll have to check into that more tomorrow at work. The piece with the light would be not problem to get, I just do not know about the wiring harness with the plug on the end.
you could buy the pigtail from the dealer. They should have wiring pigtails for almost everything. I don't imagine it would be cheap enough to buy a whole harness and just take the plugs you need. Salvage yard 'maybe' but I would check with the dealer. I remember seeing a bunch of pigtails available through the motorcraft ford division a while ago...
I found a glove box light set up for my cupholder in the dash... which I haven't gotten to yet. I took it out of a Ford Probe at one of those U-Pull-IT junkyards for a buck. Harness, pigtail, button, socket with bulb and all.
I too was going to suggest the old fashioned way, the junkyard. Go, look around, pick a switch that will work for you whether it be american or japanese, it don't matter. It only needs to wired to hot and ground. If your rich I'll put together a $pecial unit priced just right for you. Good luck this should be an easy fix.
Thanks guys, I knew that you all would have the answers. I didn't think that it would be that hard, but I just didn't know how to go about the parts side of it. I didn't know if maybe radio shack or somewhere like that would carry the parts needed. Anyhow, thanks again and I will post the results when I am finished.
