If you are thinking about getting the safe in your console I just wanted to let you know some things about it.
1) It takes up your whole console underneath the armrest except for about 1 inch between the console lid and the lid of the safe. Not much room left for anything else.
2) It makes the USB ports in the console unusable for anything you would use out of the console. So if you plug your phone in it has to stay in the safe. The only way to not have this happen is to leave the safe door open and then it bangs on the bottom of the console lid. You can use the USB ports at the front of the console under the radio but then you can't close the lid to that compartment which takes away from the "clean" look. That front compartment under the radio also has a light in it which is annoying.
It is a great safe but only if you plan on using the console for nothing else.
Just out of curiosity, how strong do you think it is? I imagine a guy with a pry bar or stiff regular screwdriver could pop it open in a few seconds. Is it secure that way or just good enough to keep the valet out of the console?
Thanks for that update. My dealer said I couldn't get one in a platinum trim, but obvi he lied, and it seems that after all I may want the more usable space.

I would guess he would not be successful in a short period of time. I have had fire safes at home that were much less safe. It is solid. The lid will not flex at all and I just tried to see if I could get it to. I would have broken the console lid off if I had applied that much pressure to it. I would leave my guns in it and not worry.
Truthfully if it wasn't dealer stock with it already in there, I would not have gotten it. Unless you carry high dollar valuables it really isn't worth losing all the space and convenience IMO.
Can the safe be removed if you don't like it? I'm thinking I shouldn't have ordered it now.
I'm not sure but I may be finding out soon I'm trying to get used to it for those times you do have something valuable. Like my wife wearing her wedding ring to the lake and then wanting to take it off to go out on the boat. I hate trying to hide it and hope no one finds it.
Yeah...EightySecond...I'm with you on that. I'm having second thoughts now about the safe. Got to thinking...if they break into the truck and see the safe....are they going to assume you have a gun or something of value in there and really go to town destroying it?? Never had that issue in my old one...even though I was broken into a couple times. Just didn't have anything in the truck for them to take. Does the safe say..."Oh yeah...I've got a pistol".....??? I know we all take those chances in this crazy crime filled world now...but I'd rather have the thief just lift the console..see three hats and a first aid kit and move on....lol
