I have a 1974 F600 5/6 cu yd dump truck. It starts every time, and I'd like to keep it. Unfortunately I have no technical info on the vehicle, manuals, nothing, so don't know the maintenance schedules etc., the engine type, gearbox type (4 speed) or back axle type (two speed, not sure it's working OK). the VIN number is F61DVT00375. Any information on where to find information and parts would be much appreciated - thanks!
Oh numberdummy? jk jk. Actually, he can prolly tell ya just about anything you need to know. If he don't post soon, look for him in other posts and PM him.
I have a 1975 f-600 flatbed. I do know that motor wise, if you need parts look on the old ford school buses. I really do not do anything to ours. My dad can go out to it and it cranks on the first try. It was the best $100.00 I ever spent. The doors, hood, and seat from the normal size trucks interchange. Your should hear a rpm change in your engine when engaging the rear in and out. The tires are kind of hard to find, it is an odd size now.

Cool. :)
Well first, post all the numbers off the tag on the door not just the VIN.
Climb under there and get the numbers off the metal tag on the rear axle.
The transmission tag can be a tough-one or an easy-one depending.
Count the number of bolts the valve cover/s have.
There, now that's a start. :)

ps- I was given the "front half" (no kidding;) of a '74 C700.
first thing on rear axle.Does the shift motor run?
When you change ranges the shift motor should run for about 1/2 second, you can hear it from the cab with engine off

Well, no need to count valve cover bolts? ;)
If it's still original, you've got yourself an FT engine. :)
If not, they might have put an FE engine in it. http://www.panix.com/~alvinj/file12/C700-1.jpg
(it's big, I should crop and re-scale my C700 pics)
Check out the spark plugs tho = \\//

If not original...it might have a 361 or 391 FT engine in it.
The 330 H/D engine used 1973/78 is the same 330 H/D engine used 1964/72.
This is not the 330 M/D engine used 1964/72.
Ford confusion:
1973/78 F350 U-Haul trucks use what Ford calls a 330 M/D or X/D engine...BUT...this is not the 330 M/D engine used 1964/72.
It's the same 330 H/D engine used 1964/78.
The 330 H/D FT engine uses the same crank as a 361.
The 330 M/D FT engine uses a 352 crank (1964/67) or a 360 crank (1968/72).
Thanks for the help - you've all been great, particularly NumbersGuy. Anyone else with information or suggestions, please, I need all the help I can get. For example, where can I get a thermostat for the engine?
NumbersGuy
LOL :)
You think you're being nice but...
Number Dummy is a term given to "Ford parts guys" --way-- back. :)
Like me, I'm a retired railroad "Signal Ape" for example. LOL :)
Both those titles prob'ly came along at about the same time. :)
