ive been havin boost issues after a 1800km around trip to the mountains and back. we were pullin a 26ft enclosed trailer. truck ran awsum n pulled like a champ (van akkens chip set on middle (50-70hp?) guages / 4'' turbo back exausht). got back in -35*c weather. unhook trailer, truck high idled 30mins aprox b 4 headin out on 1hr trip w/o trailer. thru travels noticed EGT's climbin to summer temps. then notcied boost was at 0psi.
today i did a little testing on it, new EGR ran good for 3 days, same trouble when off to work after xmas. BUT the kicker, city drivin at temps -30*c the boost runs normal to the way ive seen it over the past 2yrs trouble free. once i head down the highway in the same temps after 10-20kms drivin the boost drops off to nuhting, EGTS climb truck has to shift down, get RPMS up then i get boost, but then itll over boost. when i idle thru a residential area n get back on highway its good for couple miles, then no boost.
what ive tried removed chip (1st nite), New EGR. runs good while in town drivin, so before highway drive i unplug EGR. same trouble. im thinkin that when the engine / engine components warm up from highway drive i lose boost. when things cool down from residental or slow drivin boost seems to be back to normal. turbo is original at 220thuo KMS. i thought ICP? EGR seems to be elminated by city drivin good, unplugged and still no boost after warm highway drive. truck is a daily driver (60miles around trip to work n back) pulls lots during summer, pulls when goin skidooing on weeknds in winter. could i have rusted turbo vanes? should i pay the dealer to figure it out further? or should i pull turbo n check for rusted / carboned vanes? no warrenty left, so shes all cash.
04 cc swb sb 4x4 6.0 diesel, 220thuo kms. 4'' turbo back exausht, stock intake since i bought truck at 66tho kms. van akkens chip. mostly for economy, sumtimes for fun... had injector buzz flash, got newest flash as of jan - feb 08. no buzz now.
i was workin towards appretice auto tech for 1.5yrs but changed careers. i sure i have the tools to get it out n apart. i was takin truck in for a windshiled tomorrow, maybe if the shop cant get to it, ill tear turbo out in am. last week at work, after it sat in a heated shop for 10-15hrs there was no smoke on start ups, ive had to cold start it down to -22*c lately within 10-15secs the engine smoothens out. im not gettin a bad diesel smell or over filled oil. could i also have bad injectors?
temp warmed up last nite, -18 this morning and its runnin good now. took it for a good highway burn and good boost the whole way. still lookin like turbo vane issue?
What type and weight oil you using?Last winter I used rotalla(sp?) 0-30 I was happy with it,I have switched to devlac 5-40 all year round and it makes my injectors happy. With 220k on your turbo it wouldn't hurt to clean it if you have the time.
Mine was doing the same thing, I replaced it with a Ford Reman and when we pulled my old one out found out that a bearing was gone allowing the turbine to scrape the housing. All is well for know 157,000 and ticking.
thanks for replys. ford is gunna pull codes tomorrow n look into diagnosing it. im runnin esso XD3 1030 summer and XD3 0-30 sythetic in winter. international fuel / oil filters. changed at 4500-5500km intervals. amsoil fuel additives with a noticable difference in the truck. im off next weekend and sleddin buddies are all workin or busy so next weeknd looks like a good chance to get at that turbo.
i have to say, this truck all in all has been very good to me. it was drove hard at the start, now its worked hard lol. im lookin towards SCT for sum good ecommy tunes / towing tunes when i get to a tuner again.
im a Hour's drive north east of lloydmisnter sask. we had a pretty good cold snap here for a while. temps look like there on the rise. just as long as the snow keeps coming in measurable amounts. who did your ARP studs?
I did all the mods my self on the F350. Then I got a 6.0 Excursion for the wifeI will need 2003 6.0 bits till the kids are out of collage.lol Best to learn to take care of them my self.
