Edge programmer?

I have a 06 f150 4x4 supercab, the thing is not exactly quick. I have a 5.4 with 3.55 geras. If I was to put a edge programmer in the truck would i benifit whatsover from it running the 3.55? I am looking for alot more pep and maybe a little better gas mileage without pulling and also pulling my camper, hope someone can help out, Thanks.

A tuner would help but IMO the 3.55s are the root of the problem especially when towing. I got 3;73s in my 6.8l with 33s and 3.73s lug the motor pretty good, I want to swap to 4.30s. Empty on the highway 3.55s may help mpg but in the city and when towing they hurt mpg and hurt performance regardless.

For a lot more pep regear, somewhere around 4.10s.

An Edge programmer would help with better fuel economy and power. There is another option too.... It's called GRYPHON programmer. It's basically an Edge, but made by Bill. He used to work for Edge and now is on his own. It's the same shape, size but Bill can custom tune the programmer for whatever your needs are. Check out his website and shoot him an e-mail with any questions. He's really good to deal with. There is also a Forum's page with all kinds of help. Another Option is SCT... X3....Here is a stock 5.4L with 3.55...X3 is Very Flexible now and down the road on any Ford Vehicle.. Oh and it makes power over stock.

Correct me if Im wrong but, as I understand it, with the Edge you can do the custom programming yourself, or get them for free from Edge. With the Gryphon you pay 30$ per custom tune? Other than that they look like the exact same unit.

They cannot reprogram all models of the edge. I have a Juice with attitude and they cannot do mine.

Ya that's what I thought. The ones that plug into the diagnostic port thingy are the ones that they can do.

On the Edge, you can't do custom tuning yourself. You might be able to do some minor changes in the menu, like change tire size and shift points. But as far as the actual programming, the only one that can do that is Bill over at Gryphon. Check out his website and there is a forums section as well.

Cheers,

Alright that makes sense. I dont have an intake or exhaust, so I would only need to change tire size. Might be better to go with the Edge for my application.

The Edge is good if your not going to make any mods. Don't buy a used one though, they have updated the programming lately and the older versions are no good. The Gryphon units are the same price as the Edge units, and if in the future, you do decide to upgrade the exhaust, CAI, etc. Bill can make up 1,2 or 3 custom programs specially for your set up. Plus he has all the knowledge of the Edge units, because he helped design them in the first place.

Cheers,

Hello,

I am a newbie to the Ford truck scene....but I have a 79' Mustang street/strip/show car that I have owned for 6 years...so I am not new to Ford's...just trucks! I am just happy to own all Fords now!!

Anyhow...my truck is an 04' F250 FX4 Superduty with a 5.4...and I am planning on Magnaflow or some better exhaust, cold air, headers (if they are worth doing on a truck), and a tuner. Question is...I am a power hungry person....and this truck seems doggish to me...list the best tuner for my application. Thanks for your help!!

Hey MH,

Bill was the lead engineer on your Evolution, and we now sell a private labeled version called the Gryphon. You don't need to buy a new programmer! We can upgrade yours so that it can be custom tuned; we do about 5-10 upgrades a week.

You can find out more about the Upgrade process here:
