front pump installation???

Hello. If anyoe can help me with this problem I'd be very appreciative. i'm replacing the front pump in my C6. i made a puller and got the old one out with no problem. got the rebuilt pump that i bought ready to go in (rings, gasket, seal etc...) i pulled the trans up verticle like the guy at the shop told me to do.pulled the old pump out, looked down into the trans to make sure everything looked as it should (which by the way i know nothing about, but nothing looked "in the way") well the rebuilt pump slid into place for the most part. i tapped gently with a block of wood and a hammer. soon it got to the point that the bolts would reach the threads of the housing so i used them (again very gently) to seat the pump. here's the problem: every time i try to tighten the bolts the smaller shaft that fits inside the pump wont turn, or even slide up and down. when i loosen all of the bolts it slides in and out of the pump easily and turns (but at one point when i turn it, it gets more difficult to turn). so my question is, how do i get the bolts tightened and the shaft still be able to turn? Did i mess something up when i put it in? any advice appreciated greatly.. I'm stumped.

Its sounds like when you removed the old pump the drums moved and the thrust washer between the forward and direct drum became mispositioned, or its a clutch in one of the drums holding the drum up and when you tighten the bolts it binds. You might have to remove the drums and stick the washer back in place. But what I would try first is to put the shaft in without the pump, turn and rattle it to try to index the clutches. Also look down between the drums to see if you can see the washer to see if it is indexed in the notches in the direct drum, you might be able to pick in into place without removing the drums.

yep you were right. took the pump out and that washer was outta whack. it wouldn't budge. i had to take the drum out to put it into place and found that one of the "tabs" that holds it into place was bent a little. no prob. just bent it back into place. but then i found a couple more problems. there was some sore of "band" that wrapped around that drum. i found the loosening bolt and did so. the drum and band look good, but the "things" i don't know what they're called, that holds the band on were broken. well only one of them was broken. i have the C4 that i took out of the truck. does anyone know if i can salvage parts from it to fit in the C6? then i found yet another problem. ok I'll try to describe this. the "drum" that i took out had "nothches" in it and fit down into another drum looking thing. when i oulled it out i noticed that three of the notches it fit into were worn. anyone know if this will still be ok to use, or should i try to find a replacement for it? i know this is a lot of questions, but i wanna take this very slow so i don't mess anything else up.

ok i found an exploded diagram of a C6 so i can put names to these unknown parts i talked about above. The brokem "thing" that was holding the band (intermediate band) is the intermediate band anchor strut. the "notches i talked about were on the input shell that holds the clutches, and the brake drum fits down onto it via these notches. on the input shell three of these notches are worn.

Some wear there is to be expected, if its worn about 1/8 then I would think about replacing it. It will help with drive line slop.
