86 F150-302 , Running Hot According to Gauge

OK im not a mechanic so be nice. My coolant levels are fine, but it seems (according to gauge) that it is running hot at Highway speeds. It goes all the way to the "L" in "NORMAL" on the gauge. When it gets that far over it tends to get me nervous. But usually when it does it will then ease back over to the A eventually. This is when driving on pretty flat stretch of road. Kind of nervous what will happen if I have to pull a hill. So what do ya think??

If you do not want gauges in your truck, you can buy a radiator cap with a gauge built in.My interior gauge does the same thing.

It is kind of like an oven thermometer. The gauge is in the fluid at the radiator. They cost about $25.00 at the parts store. Only problem is you have to open the hood to see how hot it is. It doesn't really bother me.

Usually its the fan clutch slipping, some engines are the norm for this and others aren't.

Welcome to (FTE)!

Check the engine (Ground) A bad or loose ground will cause the Temp gauge to Max out!
I have had it happen in the Past tighten and clean the ground made it start reading right!
Hope this helps, give it a try, it may work!

p.s. Also could be the sending Unit.
