interesting drivline noise

I have a noise coming from the driveline. It is a squeek like that of a bad u-joint. All the joints are free and move smoothly. I hear this noise anything from 20 mph all the way through highway speeds 70+. Everything on the truck is tight, the noise does not change when brakes are applied. The only thing I haven't looked at (since last year) was the rear end. My truck has the 4.10 LS, it is a 99 F250 4X4 with the 5.4L.

Do you think I could be getting a noise from the clutch plates in the limited slip diff? The truck has almost 160K on it, this is the last thing I could think of for the noise.

Nope nothing like that. I replaced the rear calipers last winter, I had one lock up one night plowing. Also did new pad, anti rattle clips, rotors.

I'm really leaning toward something inside the rear axle. But there is really no way to listen to it with stethiscope. I can't duplicate it with the truck jacked up.

Yes I change lube annually. I installed an aluminum cover (from Off Road Unlimited) with extra fluid capacity two years ago, there is friction modifier in with it.

The noise didn't just come around recently. I have been plowing with this truck for 2 years it has been there since last year. It is just really bugging me that I can't find it, or pin point it.

I'm not sure how you plow Mil, but I am the only person that drives my truck. In the last 15 years of pushing snow, I have never broken anything.

My friend would slam on gas pedal when it 5 feet away snowpile and ram it that how it cause. I am sure you plow ok but he not plow easy HARD ON IT.

Can you check driveshaft if it rubbing anything? I have one truck that would do make noise like squeal it was exhaust pipe too close driveshaft when I have 1,500 pound on bed so driveshaft change angle and touch driveshaft.

Still has original exhaust. There is nothing rubbing anywhere. I have been actively trying to search this noise for about a year. It really doesn't impede performance, it's just annoying.

Good thought, but no spare. No mount. No brackets.

I am having the same problem. Mine starts squeeking after I get to about a 5mph roll, then dissipates when I hit around 50mph. Mine sounds like it is coming from the rear, but just have not had a chance to dig into it yet. Mine squeeks worse when I am on the gas. I use my parking brake pretty often, and seems to be working just fine, so I do not see that being the issue.... with mine anyways. I am leaning/hoping towards it just being some sort of metal rubbing on my rotor and it being a cheap/free fix. How hard are the rear u-joints to replace on the rear ends of these?

There was a tsb on this yrs ago ,A squealing noise can come from the front wheel bearing seal in the knuckle ,its the big seal on the back of the knuckle that keeps the water out of the wheel bearing hub.
Take a some spray silcone ,with those little red tube so you can direct the spray where you want it an spray the area of the seal to see if the noise goes away.
Becareful not to get it on your rotors.
If it goes away you have found your problem.
But to fix it ,replace the seal (not a fun weekend job)
