hi everybody ive got a 73 390 and am wondering opinions on mufflers. right now its got comp cam and lifters, edelbrock performer 600 carb, sidewinder headers, and cherry bomb glasspacks. im takin off the cherry bombs cause i dont like them. i want somethin deep and aggresive but not quite as loud and noisy as the glasspacks ive been lookin at either flowmaster 44's or hooker aero chambers which one would you guys recommend?
thanksabunch
I like BIG steel mufflers like Caddy or Hemi mufflers. Plenty of capacity, but quiet until you hit the loud pedal. Also a balance tube as soon after the collectors as you can.
Hooker Max Flows are a little quieter then the 40's. I had 40's on my P/U but it was lifted and the exhaust went straight out the back. Made it nice and kept the sound level down. You can do an H-pipe or an X-pipe. I would do the H-pipe. Also 2.5 exhaust works well. JMHO
Im prown to using flowmaster 40 series 2 chamber,,,,,,,I believe that they have a great sound,,,,But to some folks they seem to think they are a bit loud,,,,
thanks guys. i already have 2.5 inch and i love it but like you said i need to just put in an h pipe. i think that i am goin to go with the hooker mufflers. i like the flow as well as the deep mellow tone at idle with the aggressive tone when you want it to be loud. also a bonus is the hookers are cheaper than flowmasters.
Yeah I have to agree with Wes on the Hookers, there a great Muffler!! Nice and mellow!

+1 I have them on my 68' F100 with a 415 engine and they sound awesome!! Better then the Flow's in my opinion. You can go to there website and listen to them if you want to hear them first..
