cherry bomb vs thrush vs homemade

Which is louder? A thrush glasspack or cherry bomb glasspack?

Also are homemade glasspacks legal? Specifically in Pennsylvania. I probably wouldn't make my own glasspack but I was wondering if they were legal or not. I would want to make one just so I could stuff it with real glass Instead of fiberglass.

Is real glass louder than fiberglass?

This "real glass", what exactly are you talking about? Fiberglass wool is the "glass" in glasspack.

Get Some dynomax race bullets. I had true dual straights no cats and it was loud but it didn't really have a tone a was really loud then i added these billets and wow! They're awesome! They give it a lot deeper tone and are pretty loud when you want them to be but you can sneakish around if you need to

Never heard of homemade mufflers being illegal anywhere. Not sure about Pennsy but can't imagine why not. Use whatever you like! But just so you know, if you're trying to get a louder sound and still have factory cats you will be disappointed. You'll need hi flow aftermarket cats before you can be loud because factory cats are unfortunately real good mufflers themselves.

It's illegal in Pa to modify the exhaust to make it louder, but I've never heard of it being enforced. You'd only really get problems from inspection mechanics and state police. In fact former case just shop around. Most state police don't want to be bothered so usually not a problem. Local cops might try and give you crap, but it can be challenged because they usually don't have inspection licenses. All state cops do.

Lastly the comment on the stock cats is true. I've run straight pipes and my mustang was still louder and it's not that loud. The truck was painfully quiet with a glasspack on. Lop off the exhaust and see how loud it is first if you have the stock cats.

In my experience, home made mufflers rarely sound like you want them to. And on non-turbo'd engines tend to impede flow and kill HP.

The "real" glass would be actual glass. Like from a window

I don't have any cats right now. I cut them off when I put headers on the truck and where I'm at in pa you don't need an emissions test

Have you made mufflers before? What do most of them sound like?

I admire your ambition, but it doesn't work that way. Fiberglass wool is what is inside glasspack mufflers. If you do decide to build a muffler, that material is available to buy.

I know that the glasspacks are made of fiberglass now but wasn't it back in the 60s or 70s that these companies used actual glass before fiberglass? I was pretty sure I read that somewhere but I may be wrong

Most of them sounded like a tractor. Some whistled. All droned like crazy. All, to me, sounded like crap. I'm the kind that is always trying to re-invent the wheel but I couldn't do it with a muffler.

What type of muffler did you make? That's how I am always trying to re invent the wheel. I guess I like saying I built it instead of buying it

Well casing, driveshaft tubing, round tubes, square tubing, thru pipes that go all the way thru with holes, pipes with baffles, 2 piece thru pipes, thru pipes in 3 pieces ( make an "S" shape), even tried an old freon container once! All with the same result. Lots of weird sounds and no benefits.
