I had 34" cherries bolted to the end of my Hooker headers on my 73' Montego MX with pipe exiting in front of the rear wheels and yah, sounds awsome.

If your 16 years old they are the way to go. More or less, they just absorb the high tones from the exhaust, they don't muffle any sound. One thing to keep in mind with smaller engines, you aren't pushing as much air or creating the same resonance so you will need to use a smaller pipe to simulate the same sounds. If you try to use a 2.5 or 3" cherry bomb it will sound just like a fart can. I would suggest no larger than 2" single exiting before the wheel. Exit location makes a bit of difference as well.

I've got dual Cherry Bombs on my truck. I love the sound they make, but for some reason, they aren't as loud as everyone is talking about them being. It's probably got something to do with the piping or the cat, but either way...I've very pleased with them.

on v8s they sound great, when i was 16, i put one on my 3.5 v6 nissan and it sounded like a ricer fart can. the smaller the engine, the more it will sound like a fart can.

with your small engine i would get a baffeld muffler like a flowmaster. they are cheap and sound better on small motors.

get a glass pack / cherry bomb, its a hot rodders tradition.. been around for a long time.. and they cost under 20 bucks.. so its worth trying.. longer you buy the quieter they are.. if they are behind a cat convertor they will be really quiet.
