well i think it was more of being impatient but after about hr and a half of hitting, cursing, twisting, cursing, prying, etc. i decided to put the other half of the gp that pulled out, back in and weld the electrode back onto the body. if that makes sense. my reason for this is they have been soaking for almost 24 hrs and if they didnt come out with all my efforts, they wont. well you can guess the out come. they broke off and are still lodged in the head. my guess is they are about 1.5" long. im soaking them even more and am gonna try 1 more time to push them through with compression. after that, if it doesnt come out, heads are comin off. what a let down
heres some pics.
theres supposed to be about 1.5" sticking out
I had a similar experience years ago by making the mistake of putting NAPA glow plugs in the truck instead of BERU plugs. They failed after about 30K miles and when I went to pull them 4 were swelled and stuck in the head. I managed to yank 3 of the 4 out after much cursing. To this day 80K miles later, the last one is still fused to the head and sheared off. I kept a spare in the truck in case it should ever blow out, but after this amount of time I think it is just a permanent part of the head. It still starts fine with 7 good glow plugs, even in the bitter cold. If they are truly swelled into the head, you may be able to abandon them and continue on short a glow plug or two. Sure is a lot cheaper than pulling the heads and taking them to a machine shop to have the old plugs removed.
yeah i blew the holes clean with comprssed air then filled em back up with seafoam. im thinkin about leaving them soak for a few days. they are the stock beru plugs with 200k on them. my dad always kept the truck plugged in because its always had a cold start issue. but learn from my mistakes..DO NOT PROCRASTINATE replace them while ya can!!
hey madvan, i am going to try to turn the engine over in a few days. what if i got her started and got her warmed up? you think the heads will heat up/expand enough to spit them out? and about this fishing trip, cant use a magnet right cause theyre stainless. how big is the valve hole? hey looky there your in PA jk HE HE
Leave the valve covers off when you turn it over. If they do not come out when you turn it over, rev the engine hard and see if that gets them to shoot out. My guess is that they have swelled in mid shaft and fused themselves to the block, that's what happened to me. The only way to remove them at that point is to remove the heads and have a machine shop get them out and repair the damage.
Sorry to hear about your troubles, I know your pain...

i like this idea!!! hold on a minute, i need to get another beer for this one!!
sounds like something i'd think up. couple more beers and i'm ready!
I have never gotten one out with the motor compression.
Ricks tool works!
I dont know how much you have to work with, if any.
Thing is you do not know if its carbon or swell stuck.
Best is to move (pound) it into the cyl and work it in and out.
The tip is only out about 3/16 into the cyl. The tip is about 3/16 and the body is 5/16.
The electrical tip and body is steel, the inner electrode is non magnetic.
Could be stainless, i dont know.
It could be worse. It could be a van!
I have removed a piece of the gp from in the cyl from thru the x-port.
Used compressed air from the gp hole and blew it out the x-port and have used a shopvac.
You have to remove the spring and drop the valve.
Bill did you remove the manifold too to blopw it out or just the up-pipe?
I did some measuring on my cannibalized Beru GP and injector. The tip on the GP I had is magnetic and it measures .200 and the injector tip measures .275. removing the injector should get you enough space but fishing it out will be the hard part! Like really hard!

Yes, removed the X-mani.
What matters is how big the stuck part is.
The gp is 5in long tip to tip.
The gp is magnetic on the electrical connection end.
The other end cannot be picked up with the magnet.
Just not enough room to work in the inj hole. Tried the old grease trick
and was a no go.
