I just bought an 02 F250, 4x4, 7.3L truck. The truck has 97K miles and the transmission fluid has never been touched. I am one of those guys that change his fluid every 30K miles, but I have been warned on this truck. I was told by a Ford dealer and several other folks that if this truck had never been serviced with 97K miles do not touch the fluid because once you flush it and change it, the tranny will fail soon after becaue of the deposits that will break loose?
Has anyone else been told this? I was hoping to put a shift kit in it but now I guess I will run i until failure and not mess with it.
Any input would be appreciated.
Fluid is pretty dirty. So there is probably some deposits in the unit.
It makes sense. The fluid is mostly detergent and when you change it, the fresh detergent will clean everything well and break the deposits loose that ruins the tranny.
