Need Some Help

Hey Guys!
I have a 1996 Ford F-350 Crewcab With The 7.3L and a 5spd tranmission. Only 108K, always been a great truck, in the last week I have had two problems. The first is at idle it seems like it is missing a bit, then it smooths out then misses again. I thought maybe a fuel filter but we just got the truck fully serviced. Going down the road or just giving it a little diesel fuel it runs perfect, only at idle it misses a bit. My mechanic said it could be the MAP sensor? Can anyone tell me if that is true and what it does. The other issue is shifting up into third it grinds. It only does it about every ten shifts into third. Any ideas? Ok well thanks for the help in advanced!

Matt

is it definatly missing or is it just a rough idle? that and the shift could be dual mass flywheel related.

or 3rd gear syncro could be shot

Hard to tell, I could be sitting at a light and its smooth, then you feel it get a little rough. My mechanic did a test with his computer of the injectors and he said they all tested fine. I just drove it 150 miles on the interstate and it was perfect, only at idle.

Thanks

Coon, fuel leak somewhere maybe causing rough idle?........ I was thinking maybe ICP related but there would de a code shown or CEL

Shifting issue, if it dosn't happen in all the gears I'd say its the 3rd gear synchro

Yes it has had a clutch, thinking it is the 3rd gear syncro. Anything to add to the tranny to try to get some more use out of it? Also, when my mechanic hooked his computer up to do the self test there was a code for the MAP Sensor. It does feel at idle it goes in an out of time. Not bad but it is there.

The shift thing could still be the clutch rod bushing.
I have shift problems only into 3rd with a grind, or somethings second. But its not syncro's, its the bushing.

Try double clutching it and see what it does.

Yea, clutchless shift will definitely tell you if syncro is bad or not.

you use your ears and experiance to know when to go for the next gear, you change into the next gear when the engine speed is identical to the transmission speed and the gear slides right into place, you are not using the syncro to match things up. so in theory if you do it properly the gear will be smooth and quiet.
