when you pull off the chrome plated window seal type thing there will be a bunch of like black adhesive tar. Find something that will cut through that stuff very carefully. i forgot what me and a friend used. i think i was just a huge like 4 in. knife. we broke 4 windshields before we got one out without breaking it.
yeh just hope. if you break enough that you give up just call a local replacement glass company. thats what we were gonna do if we broke another windshield.
One thing to be aware of however, is that there are several different tints, or lack of tints, to the windshields during all these years.
Where the windshield is marked "Carlite" or "Ford" either in the bottom middle, or the right lower corner, it will say "SUN X" or "TINT", or it may not say anything on non tinted glass, and Below that you wil see a alphanumeric sequence. "A-56" or "A-57" or "A-58" or any number in a range like that. Match the Number and type of tint, or lack thereof to the replacement windshield, to get an exact match. Every piece of factory glass on the truck including, door glass, and the back window will have the same exact markings, or simular markings if the tint is darker behind the driver, to match replacement glass to the original.
I got a 87-91 windshield in my 84, only diffrence I seen is where the VIN tag is at , the new window's black trim is over by 4" from where the origonal VIN is. Justs makes the cops a little more pissed when checking the VIN from the windshield(hehe)
Use two people (one inside the the cab and one outside) using piano wire and a sawing motion to cut the seal.
I have even done it alone with a piece of hood release cable by myself in the junkyard. Leave the T handle on one end and grab the other end with vise grips once you push it through the seal.
Uncle stosh is correct, it does work, and I have helped my glass man friend in the yards before, One thing will make it alot better is some wendex glass cleaner or any foamy type cleaner and spray on the wire as you pull it back and forth. It cuts down on the heat being generated and lubes the wire so it don't stick to the goo.
