My 91 aero was bought with a rebuilt trans, every time i check the fluid its about twice as high as it should be, it does not spill out. What problems will this cause? I can only get overdrive occasionally.
Well, I would remove some, it can be done with that clear plastic tubing at hardware, but fluid should be fairly warm to flow in such a small tube, can siphon and get enough out, may take half hour. I have done it exactly this way.
Once at correct level, see how shifts. I would say if the tranny hasn't sprung any leaks then probably haven't done serious damage yet. Think can run a certain amount overfill, but best at correct level.
overfill causes shift problems in automatics, the Aero A4LD is especially prone to overfill caused problems
what's the color of your present ATF?
to lower level, easiest way is to pull off small neoprene hose off AUX ATF cooler in front of radiator or if yours doesn't have one, unscrew a cooler line on side tank of radiator, extend to drain pan with 3 ft section of neoprene hose pushed on line. start engine and let drain out for 10 seconds into drain pan.= approx 1/2 quart in properly pumping A4LD.
