Well lost my mind over the holiday's and took a step toward the dark side with the decision to build a French Flathead. H&H is actually building the motor. Some of the highlites are that it will displace 284 ci. with Navarro heads and tri-power intake, 97's, and electronic ignition. I will be going to H&H for the engine test run in mid to late Feb. Glad to post more details if anyone is interested and picture as soon as possible.
I wouldn't call that dark, sounds like a great project. Did you already have a block, or are H&H providing one of their brand-new ones? Sounds pretty $$$, those Navarro heads are a hot setup though!
By all means post some pics and details of their build, a video of the dyno run is always a treat!

The block is from SF Flatheads and H&H does all the machine work for them. I just happen to call when they had just finish one with a 3-5/16 bore. Ross pistons, new SCAT 4 1/8 crank, 3/4 race cam ground to spec for this build and 1.5 SS Manley valves. I had a NOS 48 oil pan and we'll slap that on too, wth a mini high torque starter.
To finish off my thoughts on this build, I found the correct bellhousing to mate the rebuilt T-19 transmission to the french block. The T-19 will give me the same location for the shifter and forward gears will be syncro which will be a real up-grade over the current crasher 4 speed. Looks like the biggest mod will be the tranny crossmember. Anyone have any thoughts on this set-up?
If you can find the cross member from a F-2 or F-2 you might be able to use it. This cross member dip lower than the F-1 and should be a fairly easy mod.
On the Bonus Built there was a person who build a really nice cross member but since the BB has gone dead I can't give you a link to it. I think the same guy is a member of this board but I can't remember who it is and if he had pictures of the cross member in his gallery here.

Thanks for the tip on the cross member, I'll post how that works out when I get the engine and trans. Speaking of which I'm heading to LA this coming weekend and on Monday H&H will be doing the run test on the French flathead. I will get some pictures and post a video of the test.
sounds like a sweet motor. I am currently saving up for them to build my spare motor. I decided against the supercharger route I am just going with a 4" crank and a good cam. See if you can get some video of the test run!
