Very nice looking engine! Did they dyno it, or just do a test run?
What Mike from H&H told me was they do a series of runs to heat up the engine and after cooling down they re-torque all the bolts check for leaks etc. They dial in the cab linkage, but no dyno runs.
Who makes the best performing headers for the F-1 and what about mufflers? The mufflers used on the test stand were Magnaflows anyone using them on their truck and what the best performance and sound distantance from the collector to the muffler?
Flatties sound good with many combinations. I have Red's F-1 headers (3-into-1 exiting to rear), one of the few that clear the steering box on an F-1. I used his extensions which go from the headers to about the rear of the trans. I put Smithy's steelpaks on those. They sound great! and will sound better when I get tailpipes. Using the combo above, I was able to avoid any welding or fabrication, just slapped it together and waas on the road.

Are you going to run two inch pipe straight back?
I just want to say the pictures of the flatty don't do it justice.
The sound of a Flat-Motor with mods is the best....
Second best is a high compression Jimmy with an open split manifold
Third best is a Y-Block of any vintage - they just have that Y-Block sound..... aaahhhhhhh .........

Just my two cents.....
I agree. I'll add an IH 345/392 V8 from 0-2000 rpms at a steady increase sounds good too.
Which brings me to this: When are the soundbites on this flat-motor, eh?

IMO 2-inch pipes are not good for anything and sound harsh. I also read a thread on the HAMB to the same effect, if you are on the street and running mufflers and tailpipes, 1-1/2" or at most 1-3/4" is better. Bigger is not always better, you need to maintain a certain velocity. These aren't 502 Chevies, they're relatively small engines.
