Hey guys, 95, cc, 5sp,dually with 135000, blue smoke at startup, especially after sitting for a while. Lost my company truck, so am driving every day. Now it smokes everytime started up. Normally dont let idle for more than a couple minutes, yesterday idled for 15-20, then smoked when took off for couple hundred feet. doesnt have the power my other 95 has. just changed oil and now notice knocking/rattle noise that didnt seem to be there before. Also added 1oz/gal of 2 stroke oil. did a search and sounds like injector o-rings or valve seals/guides. any ideas??? also mileage 13-14.
If I go into it to fix seals/ o-rings, what else would you suggest while in there, Inj. rebuild, glow plugs????
I believe o-rings generally cause hard starts and no starts, because you not able to build pressure. how cold is it out? Im in Florida and it seems if it drops below 60 over night mine does the same thing, along with a hard start.
first off, i'm not saying that you dont have an issue but, smoke from a 7.3 when its cold out is perfectly normal. no matter what you do it will always smoke when the temps drop.
with 135k on the clock you could have leaking o-rings. they will defintaly cause low power.
13-14 mpg out of a crew cab dually is really good in my opinion. is tha truck bone stock? what is done to the other 95 that runs alot stronger? is it also a cc dually?
if your truck is stock then look at removing the catylitic converter. typically the dually's get "used" more so it may be clogged up.
The cc has a 3" down pipe with a 4" exhaust and a k&n filter, that is how it was when I got it. Other than that it is stock. It does still have the cat, havent gotten around to removing it yet.The original owner had a topper on it since new, so it was basically transportation for him. Pulled a camper a couple times a year. My other 95 is a bone stock F350 4dr Bronco with an auto. 90,000 never a puff out of it and it will get up and move for a stocker. Both trucks are 4wd. I need to get that cat off, maybe that would free it up a little. Any other ideas, how about what else I should look at doing while I'm doing the orings? not gonna just go in it for the orings, but thought about rebuild on the injectors and complete diagnostic of the gp, anything else? All opinions/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Well this would be a great time for an injector refresh/upgrade if you have the cash. Certainly check the VC gaskets and wiring as well as the GP's as now is the time to replace them!
