Here we go, 97 f250 4x4 ld just had the e4od rebuily 5 may to be exact. Whole trans, flywheel and torque converter. Added a trans cooler as well...gets hot in south texas...anyway my son who is 2 loves the sound of cold dual pipes..what guy doesnt? So we back out of the driveway on the way to day care and it had rained so the ground was slick. So i get on the street...stop...and put it in drive, started to roll forward and hit it about half throttle. Seemed like it lagged a little sure didnt spin the rear wheels like i had figured. Get to the stop sign and went to accelerate normal and the truck just barely moved before engaging and then being fine. Did this at every stop until it got warm and its fine. Start it from cold and it just seems like the trans is about to fall out. Under warranty so the fix is free, anyone have a clue what might have happened? I have had issues with this shop before so i need some honest answers. P.S. if this trans is supposed to be built to run a 4x4 with 35's it should be able to handle a little burnout on a wet road.
I hate to ask the obvious, and this is in no way meant to be insulting, but did you check the fluid to make sure it was full? It sounds like it isn't building pressure when it is cold - and the fluid hasn't warmed up and expanded. I'm no tranny expert but just had mine rebuilt and know what a PITA it is. Sorry for the troubles but at least it is under warranty.
On my end no i didnt check it, however it was at the dealer about 3 weeks ago got a full tune up and all the fluids checked/changed where needed and topped off and no issues noted there. When i went back to the shop the checked the fluid right away and it was fine. Just wait and see, hope its a simple fix but who knows.
Shop called and said solenoid pack was bad? I'm no genius but I know that electrical. Why and how on earth would hot and cold affect something electrical? If electrical is bad, thats it its bad. Mechanical I could see hot and cold affecting that in some ways but even there if its bad then its bad. I'm confused now.
Got it back yesterday and it seems to be shifting better than before. no more issues since changing the solenoid. Just didn't seem to make much sense to me, turns out ok though.
